Hey all, i'm going to look at an 08 nytro over the weekend, what are some of the questions i need to make sure and ask and what are some things to look for??

Make sure it has the updated front subframe. Also check that the subframe is not bent.

You are most likely to find issues with the front end: bent subframe, worn ball joints, worn bushings.

For the subframe, look closely at the alignment of the a arms, the angle of the spindles, and the location of the shock within the a arms.

Ask if the ball joints have been replaced. See how much play they have.

Ask if the front end bushings were replaced. Hopefully the owner replaced with olite bushing. See if the a arms have any play.

Assuming proper maintenance, there is less likely to be an issue with the engine. Start it cold and check the exhaust for signs of coolant or oil. Check the coolant overflow bottle to see if it looks like coolant ever overflowed outside the bottle.

Assuming you’re not doing a leak down test, I’m not sure what else to suggest for the engine.

Red light on start up is normal. It’s on while the coolant warms.

Loud clutch on idle is normal. High clutch engagement is normal. It should be around 3500.

Listen for an exhaust rattle. Rattle means that the exhaust donuts are shot.

Assuming the engine is fine, everything I’ve listed other than a badly bent subframe is fixable. Just be aware for price negotiation and so you know what maintenance you’ll have ahead.

Good luck!

This should cover it! The only thing I would add is to check the steering inner tie rod pivot where it bolts to the subframe. My 08' had the nut loosen and egged out the hole in the subframe.

I picked up an 08' the end of last season for very little money with 5,600 miles on it and I dont know how the PO rode the thing. There is so much play in all the ball joints, spindle bushings, A-arm bushings, and the steering link above. My sub frame was tweaked and I will be adding grizztracks subframe reinforcement kit to mine after I straighten it. I am completely going thru the front end from top to bottom. Good luck. G.B.

Take a big rag and leather gloves along . Plug up the rear of the exhaust while it's running with the rag . If the sled dies then exhaust donuts are good if it still runs then they need to be replaced . Kind of an easy job but something you can negotiate. In 12000 mile's my brothers only had front end problems and donuts. I know when he bent his subframe we just bent it back with large bar but it didn't fix it. He did ride it for the entire year that way with no ill effects . There is a kit to reinforce the subframe . He had Ski Doo ski's on his and with proper setup the handling was good.

Look at front skid shock to see if rebuilt with a band around it. They are known for blowing out. If has a band it's been rebuilt.

well guys my buddy took a shot on this... 2008 nytro 7600 miles... shocks from hygear suspension in the rear and revalved front shocks new belt and fresh oil change... only down side is exhaust donuts are going or it has taken the manifold with it.... looks to be in great shape other wise, it was well taken care of.... paid $2700... i think i can do the donuts for him ive done them on 2 rx-warriors and 1 apex.... any thoughts on how the job compares 2 those??
