Heard some guys saying that the r1 some of there cams work in the rx-1 anyone?/

Hi JD, the stk 98-03 R-1 cams are the same cams that that are in the 03-05 RX-1.
The 98-03 Yamaha R-1 race cams are the same as the Apex cams.

So basicly the stock apex cams would be a upgrade for the RX-1 ??

Im gonna do a set of cams that big john got but not this year.

Yes you would see a slight gain, maybe not enough to feel but enough to see on timers.
Make sure you check valve to piston clearance though if you do as the Apex cams have quite a bit more low lift duration.

I just got a set of wiseco 13:1 pistons and my frined here has a R1 Race cam that im gonna use off him for now. Will this yeld some good power?

Main reason im pulling the bottom end apart to check the rod bolts so will im there slap some pistons new rings and rod bearings and maybe clean the head up a bit.

If you put the pistons and both cams in it will be enough to feel a gain, not a big gain though.
If you untorque the ord bolts, replace them.
If you run the exhaust cam make sure you upgrade your valve springs, you might get away with stk spring with just the int cams but you won't see much gain.

Ok ray thanks for the advise. I thought that the bolts were a one time use ill get a price on them or does arp have some?.

Im just gonna slap the pistons and maybe the intake cam, and tune the crap out of this thing with the wideband

Dyno ray if some one does both cams which valve springs should be used?Thank's

cam,s

just get the H.D valve spring from ray as i can tell you they do work well . the old ones i could take out with my finger,s . as for the H.D spring,s well let,s just say they were a hand full to install by hand. all i used as a rag in the conbustion chamber and a atomotive break tool to compress the valve spring retaner and a samll brass rod to put the keeper,s back into the retaner and valve grove,s .

I can do any headwork of anyone is interested. We do valve work, larger valves, port and polish stuff, etc. Never done a yamaha but we have had good luck making nice numbers on subaru and Ford DOHC heads.
