So i just picked up this 2006 apex rtx, only mods i know of is the track is studded with a 2/3 pattern up the middle. Also the rear shock is a normal looking atv shock not a fox float. My buddies F7 has just about every bolt on mod. We lined up on the ice and when i launched the sled it just spun, struggling for traction while my buddy pretty much left me in the dust and now is gloating about like crazy. What do i have to do to get this apex to bite and go? :4STroke:

short track apex sleds have never been known to hook up well on ice. its just the way it is.. taller chisel studs and alot of them will help for sure, but then trail riding will be hell when you start breaking the studs and throwing them

min 144 studs transfer rod to max, limiter strap longest it will go rear shock spring soft preload race him on hardpack. it will hook alot better.

launch

Stand on the rear most section of the running boards, if it still spins too much, get it rolling and then hit the throttle, he will be ahead of you for a short time but you will quickly pass him.

Set transfer rod to max also don't just hammer it to the bar when launching cause you'll just blow the track out like you did. More studs will help but even then throttle control at launch can make or break with the torque these sleds have. I will say though a modded good setup F7 will give you all you can handle. Try a roll on race from say 30 then go for it.

Go out on your own and practice trying different launching techniques like easing into the throttle. Once you blow the track away you loose a lot of acceleration.

Yeah transfer rod at max and loosen your limiter strap all the way! hard tight snow will help min 6in base snow.

Make sure he's not giving that sled >>Cat Nip! my buddy did to beat me ..

Traction is key !

Spinnin aint winnin ,if your hookin your cookin !!

If that F7 has any mods done to it your gonna have a challenge on your hands. I happen to own both machines. A well setup F7's is no slouch. Your best chance is from a rolling start. And the longer the race the better. The single biggest advantage is the light weight of the F7. There is probably a hundred pound difference between these two machines. And it is very easy to have those things in the 150 hp range (about what an apex makes). Plus those cats with that long track really bite. By all means set up the transfer rod for best weight transfer. And good luck!

I raced my buddy's 2005 F7 on a roll with a stock 2011 apex xtx and walked him. His sled is stock as well. Hard packed snow 15 mph to 90 mph. Hs sled is quick, I just won this time.

Congrats on your win. But, you mention that the other machine was all stock. And most honest cat owners will admit that the Diamond Drive machines are not as quick as the conventional drive models. Plus you don't have a 121 track.

As I already mentioned in my previous post, give that cat some mods (like the machine the OP is competing against) and your in trouble. Equal power with about a hundred pounds less weight is a formidable combination.
