First of all I feel the need to give a little backround info....I am a Yamaha tech and have been working with dirtbikes for the majority of my seven years as a mechanic. Second, the Yamaha YZ250F is a HIGHLY MODIFIABLE engine. If the new Phazer is based on the two fiddy effers engine as closely as they say it should realistically make around 60-70 HP! The YZ250 in 2005 was around 30-35 HP STOCK! I do believe that 80 is possible but sleds get less HP to the ground than dirtbikes. At the crank HP may be around 80 or so. I have put many many cams in these 250f engines and when coupled with a good exhaust n airbox mods they can make 35-40hp. and when you get into the internals of the engine (pistons valves port and polish) you can push the 43-50 hp range. So, is this the new snow-x machine that yamaha fans have been waiting for? I THINK SO! This machine could, in race trim, lose around 30lbs from its extra bs on the sled, therefore making it weigh around 430-440 lbs! VERY EQUAL TO A MXZX 440 or AC SP 440 or IQ 440. Couple this with 100-110 HP and you have your self one hell of a four stroker!
I do also wish to bring up one other important fact to sledders out there. In the 90's Yamaha came out with the first new generation High Performance four stroke dirt bike called the YZ400F. This bike was the beginning of a revolution of a racing world that today brings YZ450F's to the racing world. ALMOST ALL RACERS OF MOTO and Supercross RACE 4 STROKES!!! Honda, Kaw, and Suz have all followed Yamahas lead in this effort. Two strokes are have fallen by the wayside in our summer friends world and it soon can be the same in our season as well. I HOPE TO GOD that this Phazer is the REV killer I hope it will be! IF SO IT WOULD START THE SECOND REVOLUTION OF FOUR STROKES IN THE POWERSPORTS WORLD!!!!!
Let me know what you think pro or con on this as i am not a sled genius.

i kinda wanted to see 2 450's welded together, 900 twin, that would put some lead in my pencil. you couldnt be over 160 lbs fully dressed for this thing to perform like and 80 horse machine. my raptor puts out 5 less horse. but hey thats just me.

Only problem with the snowcross theory is that now the stock class is 600cc's and around 120 hp.
where does that phrazer fit in that?? doesn't make any sense to me that Yamaha comes out with a 440 clone to possibly race when there is no snocross class for it anymore??

it will be interesting what mods are available. Sounds like yammi is planning on some being out there as that is one of the things their 'base' model is tageting. I doubt much would carry over from the yz's. This engine has different cylinders, single peice head, gear reduction at the crank, and revs to 11000.

i heard that they will be racing the vector not the phazer. I heard that wsa will no allow the phazer to race because it is a rule that no sled with gear reduction can race.
That is just what i have heard.

I just hope the Phazer is reliable in stock form. I dont wanna be doing topend rebuilds every summer.
I think that with a 900 there would be too many vibration issues and that a 120 hp Phazer would make the Nytro pretty much obsolete.
