I have done a search on this and cannot find a definate answer. My buddies hyfax on his Rage have been wearing down way fast with 300 some miles on one pair and 160 on the second. The second pair was in conditions up in Northern Minnesota during the meltdown with plenty of wet snow, so there should have been plenty of lube. I think maybe the track is too tight or would the limiters pulled up too far do this also? Any help appreciated.

I posted earlier that I was having excessive hyfax wear and I think it was a result of the early/no snow conditions. I've since wore through my hyfax and recked my rails so on go the new rails, hyfax and a set of ice scratchers. Waited 2 weeks for hyfax and couldn't resist riding it with the new turbo so the rails are my fault.

Show some pictures. What you think is excessive wear may not be an issue at all.

He says he's down past the wear line. This was in wet snow.

I was riding in northern Minnesota this past weekend too. Temps got up to about 50 degrees F., and while there was plenty of snow, there was also plenty of salt, plenty of pavement, and plenty of dirt showing through. After the meltdown Fri/Sat, temps on Sunday were around 12-15 degrees F, and those previously sloppy wet trails were absolutely rock-hard without a lick of lubrication (pardon the analogy) for hyfax.
Not to say there isn't a hyfax problem on the Rage, but I'd be cautious about using this past weekend on the Iron Range / North Shore to draw any firm conclusions about hyfax wear.

I put a set of marginal snow wheels ( $69.00 )...on my Wife's Rage, and not on mine, just to see if they worked. THEY WORK ! I'm replacing my
Hyfax at just 250 miles, and her's are still factory. I put her wheels up near the curve on the front of the skid. That's where mine are toast.

I put a post on This morning named "Rage Idler wheels".I 'm not real happy with the placement of the idler wheels on the Rage. I have a ton of wear in front of the front idlers and even more right around where the rubber bottoming stoppers are. 'Touring' replied that he took his idlers off and the design was such that it allowed the wheels to lift up and they were not even touching his track! All of the force was on his slides. He will be making an at home modification to incorperate some bushings to prevent the wheels from moving again. I'm leaving for Quebec this weekend and I will be pulling my idlers before I leave to see just what exactly he is talking about. I did get 990 miles out of my Factory slides but with the amount of snow I have been riding on I would have expected better. My wife is riding an Mxz with an M-10. I pulled the M-10 out of my SX700R this summer and did not replace the slides because they were in great shape. I put 2200 miles on th eM-10 last year and now my wife has put 990 miles on it this year. Going over the sleds before our trip, The slides on the M-10 are still in great shape. I love my Rage but I am dissappointed with how these slides are wearing out.

I put 730 miles on my Vector and mine are getting pretty low in front of the rear wheels. I think it's also from marignal snow conditions. I was hoping for alot more miles out of them since you have to drop the skid to change them but oh well since there is no snow where I'm at now I have the time to change them for the UP trips. HEY pimpedrage where'd you get that chrome windshield I like that man!

I have a RS Venture and replaced first hifax at 1430 km. Second hifax at 1580 km. They wear really fast with two people riding. Rode with six acrtic cats this week end, I was the onle one sticking on. I wish Yamaha would fix this problem, it is a let down to their quality reputation.

2600 miles on Hyfax
I don't uderstand. I have 2600 miles on my 05 Rage and still not down to the wear line. And many of these miles were low snow conditions. two days of 35+ degres. O well !!
