Rage rear heat exchanger

Has anyone installed a rear heat exchanger on their Rage/ Vector? I talked to the dealer today and he feels that I should be patient and wait until my sleds have more miles on them before I invest in heat exchangers. One sled has 800 miles and the other has 1200. Anyone else having similar problems?

why wait?
better safe than sorry!
did magic on my rx-1 mtn-03.
overheated on a daily basis before i installed it
(riding to much trails?)
iceschratcher is also a good tip
might be a good idea to install a temp gauge instead
so you get some warning BEFORE it overheats

yamaha is installing rear heat exchanger on ALL sleds in sweden this year!!!!

I was also thinking of adding one, because I had problems with thr rx-1. But after talking to my dealer, they said they weren't seeing the problems with the vector. so I decided to wait and ride it some. But If you were having some problems I dont see how more miles would make it better. Its better to get these things done in the off season.

I put one on my vector almost right away. Mainly for a different reason. The back of the tunnel can really ice up and the exchanger really helps melt it.
In addition on the 05's some people found that they had straight antifreeze, which does not exchange heat as well as a 60/40 mix. Consider also using Water Wetter (a RedLine product) as directed on the bottle for an even further gain in cooling.

Steely Dan,

Have you actually been having overheating problems or are you just concerned that you might at some point?

Personally, I'd wait for radiator and fan kit that's bound to be a spin-off from the new Apex machines coming out this year but Tork does make an excellent point about melting off the snow and ice.

Actually Deltabox one and two are very similar in that mounting area, so it could mount fairly easy. However Apex looks like it uses a smaller brake disc for 06 and even with it being smaller it is close to the radiator, which could prevent the radiator from having proper clearance on the 05 sleds. I know this sounds weird, but my thought is to add a rear cooler to the 06 to melt the tunnel ice, and (this is the really weird part) remove the radiator.

I rode alot of no snow conditions solid dirt on the trails and thru towns I always catch some snow off the side of trail when I can help to lube slides and keeper running cooler and sometimes I would throw some snow on my running boards when sitting and idling...but most of the time I just shut it off if I'm going to be long at all and I've never had a problem...and besides there is an automatic shut down if it is idling and it gets warm...mine shut down once when new. This is a great feature and prooved to me that day it does work so I dont let it Idle long anymore. Also I let out some antifreeze and added water wetter...so my opinion is a rear heat exchanger is not needed nor is the extra wieght of one and ice build up has not been a problem at all just pound the bumps faster and harder so it falls off! ;)!

I have gotten warning lights all along since they were new. Also I have noticed anti freeze in the snow under my sled whenever I stop for a break. They have never overheated. I always shut my sled off whenever I stop and get off the sled.

I was planning on putting one on my o'ladys Rage too!

I know my 03 & 05 RX-1 ERs both had to have them before the light would stay off!!!!

That is total bull-shitt that we have to f##k with something that Yamaha has known is a problem for three years now!!!!!

BR

also anytime you add anti-freeze it will push some out to a certain level then finally quit...as I have experienced. Water level is uaually low in my resevour...but never over heats as long you do what I stated in my last post...but this is normal with most liquid cooled sleds I have found.. When snow conditions are low or weather is warm sleds will get warm and warning lights pop on if you dont keep moving and getting some snow dust up on the heat exchangers...and shut them when stopped and talking & throw some armfuls of snow on running boards etc is a good idea. And use some (water wetter) this will assist in cooling.

i havent had any overheating problems with my rage. light didnt come on once durin the 3600 mi that i rode it, and i rode in some pretty low snow conditions. i do know that the rx1 does create a bunch more heat than the rage does, or atleast the running boards are alot hotter on dads rx1 than on my rage.
