Rode one today, thank you very much BSA Yamaha in Marquette. Seem like nice guys to deal with and let me spin 10 miles on one.

In short, this yamaha 3cyl will likely be my wife's next sled. Still a little unsure whether to go w/the shortie or 136". I was hoping to get something that I'd really enjoy for trail cruising, keep the renegade for x country and boondocking.

A boondocker the rage is not. The extra weight was pretty noticeable when I got it in the fluff as one or the other ski headed for china. Takes a lot of throttle and ground speed to get it on plane in fresh powder, and this is the 136 version I rode, keep in mind. I wonder how much a pair of powder pros would help it. The guy from the dealer that rode w/me has simmons on his warrior. Anyway, I"m sure it's rideable off trail but I found myself making small inputs to miss small pine trees, stumps, etc and nothing was happening The renegade has this prowess in spades on the rage. Enough of the negative.

On the trail, this sled performed well. It pulls hard up to 90 on the dream-o-meter. I was a little surprised as the gentleman that took me out was a little older and I didn't really expect to be able to push the sled much, but he wicked it up for an old fart At 80-90 it was still gaining speed but slower. The ripsaw hooks well, braking was awesome I thought. Fair amount of engine brake too, but no more than my 8oo doo. Wind protection seemed good. Cornered fairly flat, moreso than my rev or my edge. It would lift a ski here and there, but nothing crazy. It pushed pretty good, I think some real carbides would certainly help that, and maybe some susp adjustments, so no worries there.

Ride seemed plush compared to previous clam experiences (02 viper ) There really weren't hardly any bumps on the trail, so couldn't really put it thru those paces. I was thouroughly surprised when Rick headed off trail thru the stumpfields, then intot he woods on some pretty tight 2 tracks, hehe. I'm dodging branches and stuff as best I can, but he took me thru a couple spots where it was impossible to not scrape the hood. I'm like, wtf? this is a brand new sled and I haven't signed anything??? Before we left he made a point of telling me they don't normally do test rides, then he takes me on some bonzai woods ride, LOL I did the best I could. Anyway, I wasn't buying today.

I was hoping for something that could replace my renegade, but unfortunately, I don't think it will, not without changing my riding style anyway. However, this is the ticket for trail riding, and I think my wife would like it, but may go with the shortie for her to make it a little more manageable in twisty trails. If they can pare another 50 pounds off it, I'm about ready to jump on it too.

BTW, the clutch rattle it has, as they all appear to. It's annoying as h3ll up to about 4500-5000rpm, but everybody says other than the noise (near embarrassing) there's no damage or problem. I dunno?\

Over all I was very impressed. Fit and finish was also top notch, as expected.

If the rage had a larger 144 or 151 on it, it would probably be an awesome deep snow sled

My dealer took a new rage out as well. They did put the 05 mountain ski's on it and said it was still terrible in the powder due to the 136.

It looks like a really nice sled and would probably be perfect for your wifes next sled. Good smooth power and good gas mileage

They already do. It's called the Vector Mountain.

rode a clutched and piped vector-night and day difference between that and my rage. that sled hauled @$$, 106 on the dream o meter in 750 ft, but that was wfo, and i havent opened my baby up yet. i went to a dealers and they wanted me to try out the new pipe and clutch...seems to work pretty damn good

Pimped, what pipe and clutching were they using? Price?

Did you get any tips or recommended setups for the deep powder?

Hollo follow snowmobilers, new to the forum. Can anybody tell me what all has to be done to 2005 rage to sled out west? Thanks,F.C.Rider
