Same thing happend to mine last year. This fall I decided to try something and here's a pic of it. Basically a U-channel made from 1.00mm sheet steel, then use a 6mm socket head cap screw and nylock nut to secure. Reason for the SHCS is so that to can tighten the bolt without snapping it in two, plus it fits in the groove perfectly. Hope this helps.

Its strictly on these newer yamahas with the end caps, mine on my attak and on my friends nytro seem like they cud fall off at any second. Sucking up the staps would be better for sliders and the little caps, but would be LAME with no transfer.
Good idea for that sheet metal thing by the way, anything to help is great. Its hard to see in the pic tho.

I drilled out the rivets, and replaced them with a stainless bolt and nylock nut.
The most important thing I did was fill the cap with Goop glue. They are rock solid now.

Another member on this site said to drill and tap just like the hyfax screw, and it will hold them tight. You need to countersink the screws, just remember that. Mine came off the 1st ride this year on my attak.

Why would you have to countersink the screw? It's on the side. Just use a screw, or bolt with a washer on both sides, and a nylock nut.

No, I tried the bolts on the side, and they still broke off. The method I mentioned is underneath the rails like the hyfax screws go into the rail.

Broke off???
I'm curious how that could happen....were they aluminum or was it sticking out past the cap and subject to impact from ice etc?

I can't see how bolts could break either. Use the Goop, and your trouble is over. It stays a little flexible.

where are you putting the goop?

Yep, fill it with GOOP or I use RTV SILICONE of any kind, once you drill out the rivet to replace it, take the rail cap off and fill it up and re-install it and wipe of excess GOOP or SILICONE and re-fasten, it will absorb vibrations...
