When I am flying around on the Grizz and apply the brakes hard, there is a loud ratcheting sound that comes from the drivetrain somewhere. It has done it from new and hasn't got any worse. What is making the noise? Has anyone encountered the same problem?

Yes, they all do it. When you first hear it you think something is wrong but Yamaha says its normal. As for what it is, its definetley in the drive train...BBY

The grizzly has inboard brakes. so when you apply the brakes it stopes the driveline going into the rear diff so everything from there out have play so what you here is thecv joints and ring and pinion. jack the back up apply the brakes and try to turn the back tires and you will see where the ratcheting noise is comming from

The only ratcheting I have heard from either of my two grizz's comes from the starter mechanism. It changes every startup, slightly.
I beleive "rebel" must be refering to the "clattering" that occurs only when braking hard. That one is from the drivetrain slack and is normal to the Grizz.
The ratcheing sound is a different ound entirely.
