Just got the sled fired up today and I have picked up a rattle in the exhaust around the back of the sled, sounds like a gaurd or baffle vibrating when its idling and goes away when its reved up, has someone had the same issue? Thanks
It's the heat shields that are mounted at the top of the tunnel under the exhaust. They were removed for the 2004-2005 sleds so they are obviously not that important. I will be removing mine as soon as I get off my butt and start getting it ready for the winter.
Could be the doughnuts also......Happened on 2 of my sleds so far. Removed heat shields and the rattle changed. Went from heat shield rattle to exhaust rattle from worn doughnuts. Plenty of threads on here about this. Not a bad job if you have mechainical ability.
All of the above are good potential sources of the noise. Recently, my tunnel protectors [Square Tubing] were loose and rattling.
To check the exhaust donuts, have someone hold their hand over the exhaust tips and look for exhaust coming up from under the front of the sled/tunnel. This works best when the sled is cold and emitting a lot of vapor.
Found the problem guys, it was one of two things 1) Rivots that hold the cooler pipe between the two back hoses were loose and that pipe was really rattley 2) One of the two cross brackets that run down the twinned pipes before the muffler was broken, fixed both... rattle gone... Thanks for all the input we were in the right area!!
