It will affect your mileage a little. I say of you want mileage buy a 500. You just need to run it on a stand and check the distance between the sliders and the clips. The bolts may not be the same. Also run the track as loose as possible without ratcheting.

Yeah, I get that, but you can center it all you like and if the adjusters are not tightened equally it will just move again. How do you check to make sure they are adjusted the same? On a stand? Adjust and then spin the track and make sure it stays centered?

Oh no, don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for better mileage, just wondering why mine is less than other RX-1's that I ride with. Meanwhile the sleds getting better mileage have higher top end... Seems odd. I was just saying that making it run richer will make the difference even more noticeable, that's all.

ReX said:Last night I had my 05 up to 194 kph (121 mph) on the speedometer and it was still climbing. The conditions everywhere around here are basically rock hard frozen ice (we had tons of rain last weekend) with about 1/4" of snow on top. If I take off the 15% error it works out to about 105 mph.
On hard packed snow mine won't typically do more than about 176 kph (110 mph ) on the speedometer which is similar to your sled.
Last season there were times when I couldn't get it past 160 kph (100 mph) on the speedometer on nicely groomed northern trails (not super hard packed). Actual speed was probably around 87 mph. Some of these Northern runs were wide open for 30+ miles.
At the same time I've lined up against a friends Apex ER many, many times and he hasn't beat me yet (his is 100% stock). Even top speed we're identical.
Mine sounds very similar to yours (I expect I'd have an advantage accelerating at lower speeds though with the Ulmer kit).
I agree, that sounds exactly like my sled... Even the color!! Missed you guys at Bernard's this week. I'm heading back up again in a couple of weeks though, so I would like to play with a couple of things and see what happens. By the way, how is your fuel mileage?
Might want to see where your fuel screws are set if you haven't previously adjusted them. My friend was getting about 11 mpg with his '04 since new. Dealer finally checked carbs, one fuel screw FIVE turns out and two floats set high.
I should add that after testing stock and getting 105.7, I ran o-s-o primary, 14.5mm rollers, silver spring at 1-6, spacers under helix and hit 108.9. Definately a great improvement over stock for little money. This was Black Johns set-up.

Pretty disappointing. I sold my srx that would have beat the lips off of this thing and I don't care what anyone says. Having said that though these rx1's have alot of "hidden power" IMO.
Hey Josh....I know you've probably heard this before but you will pick up more power when you fully brak that motor in. About 1500 miles.
PS. Got your PM.....sorry been real busy. Got the re-inforcements put on last week.

Ok, now you're on to a subject that definitely interests me. I agree that the primary springs and the secondary spacers will help, as well as a track alignment and tension adjustment, but I do tend to smell a bit of unburnt fuel occasionally on my sled. It smells like it is running rich, and this would partially explain the mileage. Here's the problem, you might as well be speaking greek to me about these carbs. Just when I thought I completely understood the flat slide mikunis on my Cat I sold it and bought my RX-1. For whatever reason these carbs intimidate me. My Dad does have the shop manual for his RX-1, so it HOPEFULLY would walk me through how to check all of this and how to set it, but if anybody here knows I would appreciate the information.

How can clutching change top speed ? Final ratio is final ratio. That would mean that stock clutching is not reaching final ratio ?
Draw marker lines on the clutches and see if your getting full shift.
Do the spacers under the helix give a little overdrive ratio ?

114 MPH was all I was seeing on my 04 Warrior, than I tried some suggestions from blackjohn and put in the OSO primary, and shimmed the secondary and I added the SLP anti-wear pads.
I was now revving 10500-10600 RPM and hitting 123 MPH on the big end.
This year blackjohn suggested adding 14.5 mm rollers and a Silver secondary spring. I also added 4 TPI valves with 160 main jets! All I can say is wow
This Warrior is now able to pull away from my buddy's 05 RX-1 and hang with my other buddy on his 06 Mach Z. I'll get back to you on the Top End numbers when I get back from Quebec!
I'm thinking about venting the carbs and the timing key, but I'm waiting for more feedback on these 8)
My gas mileage has not changed either
I was equal with the stock 05 RX-1

QCrider,Had the same sled as you last year.I saw 127 on the speedo many times with these clutch and carb mods.1-Remove the inner rivet on your stock clutch weights.2-silver spring in the stock secondary wrapped to 80degrees.3-have your carbs sycronized. Mine were out. Also set your track to about 1 inch of sag to the bottom of the sliders under the rear bumpstop, with the track hanging freely.

With these mods did you lose anything on the low end?

no loss any where just gains. even when you look in the shop manual i shows that the jetting is to lean right out of the box. i jetted up and have seen no loss in mpg. it just takes a little less push on the thumb to mainten speed. go over the carb,s realy well i have found lots problems there. like pilots pluged from new (varnish) butterflys that would not open fully. i had to split the rack to repair.
