so here we are at the end of another season and ive got a horrible decision to make...
what the hell do i do with my nytro? i just clicked off 7000 miles and she has run flawlessly since ive finally got the damn thing tuned in. i still have a problem with setup from day to day if i set her up to rail corners on groomed trails it sucks on the way in with the big bumps and vice versa. nothing a new front end and some progressive valving cant fix. (so i think)
but then theres the new viper, which i think is great but im just not sure about buying a first year sled ? and honestly why am i gonna buy a sled yamaha is not manufacturing if they are promising a new sled every year for the next five years?
so anyway i think my nytro is due for a track if im going to use it as a primary sled again next season, (looks good still, but had a lug rip off and shes starting to make me nervous about the mileage on it)
the nytro if im gonna keep it also needs a new front end bad , but the thing is which one? i ride 90% on trail long distance aggressive riding.
im truly thinking about dumping a new 128" track and a new front end. but at that money i could totally upgrade to a viper and sell my sled in the fall as is...
can anyone share any insight on your thoughts? anyone have any experience with which front end it to get for trail riding/ cc style riding? ive spent hours reading and all i can find is reviews on mountain sleds, im looking to know if z bros or skinz front end is the way to go ? can they take a beating like the stock arms? ive hit some serious #*$&@ and crashed out a couple good ditches and since i gusseted my sub frame no issues at all. can i expect one of these kits to handle the same abuse?
1/2 of me is saying why did i buy a four stroke if im not gonna put the mileage on it ? and the other half is saying to upgrade but to what ? i have a hard time believing a pro cross will last me 5 years and the way im going thats how long a sled needs to last.
any help would be appreciated boys.

Why don't you think the viper chassis will last 5 years?
You really think yamaha's chassis are that much better?

I have the Z bros front end on my new to nytro. I have only 92miles on it and it took good jumps with it so far and it works great. I can't say if its better then stock.

Keep the Nytro, put some money into it and ride it for a couple of years to get your money's worth! Meanwhile, keep a good eye on what's going on at the Yamaha factory and if nothing else is really new, then pick up a new Viper which will be on it's 3rd production year and have most of the bugs worked out of it.

yes i do
in what we trade off in bad handling charecteristics and weight these things are built like tanks... from what i see and hear i do believe as far as longevity goes things are not going to be better with cat. but i could be wrong. do you think cat puts a chassis together that last?
thing is i cant upgrade a sled every year or two i need a sled to last through the abuse. and alot of guys that ride cats and ski doos the way we ride those sleds are all done after 2-3 seasons. thats the whole reason i ended up with a heavy #*$&@ nytro to start.

Yes I do...
They have always had problems with engines and clutches not as much with the chassis
I think all of them make a good sled its just what fits you and how you ride plus if you keep up on them and go though them and check every bolt and rivet any of them will last as long as you want them to
If you don't take care of them they don't last ....sleds take a lot of work to last a long time no matter what brand it is....

Keeping my Nytro 1 more year, then Viper, I have 14 000 KMS with a turbo, realy no big issues. Regular repairers, put a batterie this week, front end needs bushing, so I can't complain!

I have seen many cats with over 10000 mi on them.Bushing and such wear in any make including Yamaha. You and I can afford to replace the wear items including track.Motor failure is a season ending failure at the least. The motor in your Nytro or the Viper is going to last well over 10000 mi.So that about eliminates everything other than handling and suspension.Which is better?
I word stick with the nytro.
As for durabulitly I have a skinz front. I hit a rock that snapped the spindle in half at 35mph and the a arms didn't bend. So they are definatly very strong for sure.

Consider upgrading to a new Nytro, there are some great deals on them now and in a few years you can reconsider a Viper.
Im pretty open on brands and love my Yamaha for sure. The procross cat have had issues because everybody wants something lighter. The viper is not much lighter then the nytro but wont know till production models are out. I will say my sons Crossfire 700 has been bullet proof and runs strong all the time. Steers so much easier and only changed the hyfax cause he wanted a different color. Regular maintence and a belt a year for good measure really has me thinking lately.

rbell14....the newer nytros don't have as good of shocks as you do now do they?
If you are thinking that I would keep what you got and build on that ..you already have a good start with some updates right!!!!!!

I will keep mine and have the shocks revalved and continue to build on my upgrades. I only have 3,000 miles on it so i have plenty of riding left.
