Had my 03 shorty for 5 days. Now I have the over heat problem. Can anyone answer the question for sure? 1.Can it fit the shorty? 2. Is it available or in short supply.. I need help, just got a fresh 12", I what to ride!!!!! Help this Vermonter>>>???

i read some where the exchanger will help, but does not fit the shorty's. I dont know if this is true. where in Vt did they get 12 inches of snow?

The viper rear exchanger will work on your shorty, pretty simple to install, with the rear exchanger and the extra heat generated by the turbo i still have not seen my temp guage go above 160, even on the lakes with no snow coming up, i can send you pics if nessecary!

you say that you've had the sled for five DAYS and it's overheating in a foot of snow??? You've got a problem some where other than adding an exchanger/ is this a new leftover? If so take it back/ It probably wasn't burped properly/ if it's used from a third party try to find out where they got it and chase the dealer down to see if this sled has had an inherrient problem from the get-go/ then find the fix for it/ later

I'll second that it wasn't burped properly. I've got over 1700 miles on my warrior, some where when the temperature was over 50 degrees, and have never had the temp light come on.

There should be no heat problems with a shorty, its only when you go with a longer and higher track that problems start.

Also, there is absolutely no way in hel* that the RX1 rear heat exchanger will fit on a shorty... not unless you don't mind yanking off your flap and mounting it out behind your sled - it'll stick out a good 8 inches.

hot shorty

Maybe I should give more info. I put about 40 miles on around my house in mid 30's weather and mealy snow with no problems, even dirt road crossings and some idle time was ok. I then rode on Saturday about 70 miles in varying snow, with some bare areas with no heat problem, Did over 100 on a lake, no problem. The problem started when it started to snow. After a couple stops for the temp light on and the old throwing the snow on the boards I noticed the vents under the headlights were completely clovered with ice and snow. I sort of sumized that those vents send cool air over the top of the engine and down the back to cool the header area. This was very hot. So I cleared the vents and was ok for the rest of the ride almost... it did happen one more time and I did have a little build up of ice starting in the corners of the vents. So here I am... I have not seen anyone mention those vents or exhaust temp? 1.Anyone have any info on this aspect? 2. Is it easy to make sure the cooling system is purged? 3. Does anyone think the Viper rear cooler is a good idea? Thanks to all of you!!! This is a great forum!!!! Tony (Yes I got 11.5 fluffy inches on Sunday afternoon!!! Happy spring!!!

Tony, I am ordering a Viper rear exchanger for my wife's sled because she has overheated in the hardpack snow. Its probably because she isn't goosing the throttle and getting enough snow up there. She is aware of the problem and knows that she may have to go off the trail to fix it. My RX-1 has only overheated twice when I was sitting idle.

After 2000 miles of riding we never had any heat trouble, untill last weekend. As soon as we left the groomed trails and got on an old railway line which was very hard packed the warning light came on. Of course we both stopped open the hoods and checked things out, only to find not much heat coming off of anything. The exchangers were only luke warm to touch with your hand, we had a good idea of the problem from reading these post before. As soon as we got back on the trails and kicked up some snow the lights went out on both sleds [03 shorty / 04 warrior] Is there a second rear exchanger on the mt sleds?.
