I went out for a ride on the lake yesterday. About 18" of snow on top of the ice with a lot of slush mixed in due in part from our mild start followed by a good dumping.

I have my sled set up now so that most of the weight sits on the rear for traction. I only have the stock Hacksaw track and it's lugs are not suited for deep snow use.

My concern is that I cannot steer very well in the deep stuff but by shifting more weight over the skiis would that not make the sled plow more? I realize I cannot have one without comprimising the other especially since my sled cooperates very nicely on the trails the way it is now.

For starters, I was going to tighten up my limiter strap since I don't want to decrease spring preload since I need a stiff setting to support my weight. My shocks do not have compression adjustments and only the rear end has been revalved to my specific weight and riding style. What else could I try?

The sled plows at slow speeds but top speed on the lake in its current state is maybe 80 km/h, at this speed there is very little weight on the front.

Sounds like your set up pretty good. If it handles nice on trails you may have to learn to steer by shifting weight in the deeper stuff. By the sounds of your set up you should be able to perform this very easily.
Do you steer in powder with your body weight ( turning left you steer right lean left) ? Or just slow down and just try and steer?

Yeah actually I can steer pretty good by leaning, you pretty much have to with these sleds since their C of G is so much higher. I have some tight confines to navigate on my property that makes lean turns hard to accomplish so it is then that I resort to slow steering. My skiis are 6" wide. I think the problem is in the deep stuff, the bulk of the weight is on the rear skid with very little on the skiis so in order to effectively steer, I gotta have stand and lean over the tank. I'm 6'4", rather big for a Phazer but I bought it because riding it makes me feel like I'm riding my enduro.

Previously, I had slacked off the transfer strap to reduce ski push. My front shocks are factory and have not been valved to suit me yet, therefore I keep them on the stiff side. I can try tightening it back up at least up to the next hole, and maybe return my sway bar to medium from hard.
