Yamaha wants $94.00 dollors for the 7-inch rear wheels for the apex from what i was told by a dealer. What options do i have to change these wheels outt and what is the best set up to run for trail rideing sled has 4000 miles. The inside wheel and bearing is junk and the outter in ones are coming apart and bearings are rough any of u guys that can help i would appreciate it thanks

I got some PPD 7" replacements for little under $24 with replaceable bearings. This also eliminated the rubber squeak that the OEM rear wheels had against the track.

They might come from Spanky's Powersports in Michigan.

I had the small idlers come apart in the first 50 miles, dealer covered the 2 inner ones but replaced them with junk, too. Rockerdan convinced me to upgrade to the spoked OEM wheels. 1000 miles on them with no issues, and they were cheaper than the originals with replaceable bearings!

Yamaha GYT wheel's are also cheaper and have replacable bearing's. They also look exactly like original. kviper

I had 6 different wheels come apart on me(06 attack) and one of the dealers down here says that yammie is not going to go good for any more because of the studding of the track!!!!!! I replaced one of the wheels from an rx 1 warrior wheel NO PROBLEMS....WHY??I keep telling the dealer to replace them with the older wheels,But they won't,not the right order number..I have a 3 year warranty on this thing and always seem to be fighting for good parts.Don't get me wrong I love my yammie but why should I keep banging heads with the dealer? Is anyone else having the same problem?

I have the warranty but yamaha will only replace the wheels once and sled has to fall into the mileage guidline from what i am told.My dealer replaced 2 sets and i needed another yamaha said no.Cost me $150.00 for wheels my bad for putting the junk back on and not thinking about the alternative but i was in maine rideing too when i needed 2 .

I am not studded
Mbarry thanks for info looks like a good alternative ;)!

My original junk idlers started delaminating in under 50 miles. The dealer swapped the 2 inner ones under warranty but Yamaha wouldn't proactively replace the other 4 outer wheels. Since I didn't get YES I evaluated my aggravation and risk of those OEM wheels potentially coming apart, and ruining my ride, against the "out of pocket" cost of replacing all of them with these spoked alternatives that Rockerdan suggested.

These spoked catalog wheels were cheaper than the OEM junk wheels (paid $22 each) so it was a win win for me. I sold my self on it by considreing it an investment / insurance I wouldn't get stuck riding with blown idlers... Guys were spending that, plus the pain of machining mounts, to install Skidoo wheels. Yamaha sure wasn't taking care of the issue and i wasn't about to waste any of my time moaning about it.

one thing ive found over the past few seasons.....the INNER wheels(where studs are,if you stud up middle only)......will STILL WEAR OUT FAST even with the spoked wheels..

my first set of spoked wheels(rear axle included) all lasted 3000 miles or so....put them on brand new sled.....then,the inners were wearing abit(chunked slightly) so this season I added two brand new INNER idlers....and within 50 miles, they chunked apart!..why????

here is my conclusion....the MOUNTS with ONE BOLT (now that I have more miles on sled) were flexing more then when sled was new....this ONLY MATTERS where there are studs.....the bracket flexes, and then the WHEEL SCRUBS across the heads of studs back and forth, which in turn makes the rubber chunk!.....

the outer wheels, same wheels,no studs are fine....so if you stud outer too, then you will also have wheel issues outer.

My fix....I added two- 2 BOLT MOUNTS(DOO) to the INNERS only...and also added two 135 mm wheels(DOO).....and now with near 1000 miles on this new setup, wheels look NEW!....

I dont think the wheels(DOO) were the answer,I think it was the 2 bolt mount that saves the wheels from scrubbing across stud heads....the DOO wheels are tough, and i recommend them highly...however i would bet my bottom dollar that I could put the same spoked wheels that wore out(new) and they would last now due to the 2 bolt mounts.

In conclusions.....

ANYWHERE you have studs on the yammies with a stock 1 BOLT IDLER bracket....you should change to a 2 BOLT BRACKET(DOO or older yammies had them too)..and your idler wheels will not chunk off anymore.

Pics of my setup...

Dan, did you have to machine thos Doo mounts too? Do the older Yamaha 2 bolt mounts just drop in? I line just drop in upgrades, they are more consistent for me...

I'm still running the plastic RX1 wheels as my two centers where the studs are. A few thousand miles and they're still fine.

I copied Dan and used the spoked accessory wheels for the rest.

SMA-8FP38... is the Yamaha catalog # for the spoked idlers.

believe it or not i still have the OEM inner wheels Ive greased the bearings several times.. (they have over 7000 miles on them)

im going to change them out this year..
