Removing starter info link

Buddy of mine changed the starter on his sled by himself and did not follow this link. He did it in no time flat...

All you need to do is take off the two airbox bolts out, drain oil and take filter off. Get at the two front motor mount bolts and remove them. He had his sled lifted up on the front bumper with a come along. Then he put a piece of wood under the engine block, lowered the sled onto the block and the engine tipped back and he removed the starter and replaced it with the new one. Lift up on come along to line up motor mount bolts and put oil in it. No need to remove steering shafts and airbox or have two people.

Much easier than what the link suggests....

Sounds good. The more we share the better. I like easy.

Yeah, he was a victim of the starter staying on and burning out. So two starter savers are in order...one for me and one for him.

That is essentially what I did, but I used a piece of wood across the sub-frame rails and bar-clamps to lift the front of the engine up, rather than lowering the sled onto a block.

Old Thumper, RX1MPete What year are those Nytros? I have mine all apart, all cowlings, covers, hood, steering, air box, radiator, (just to get to front engine mount bolts) on '08 Nytro, have a guy wire through the the holes on front of the motor tilting it back about 1/2 inch and it is stopped by the exhaust shield, can't get anymore play out of it... just curious if you guys have same sled... thing has been kicking my #*$&@ for about 6 hours now. We have pried, jack, lifted, etc...

Buddy did it on his 2010 MTX....shouldn't be any different than an 08.

Hats off to you...after getting frustrated and taking a break. Went back out put wood the length of the oil pan (underneath), using floor jack slowly lifted up on engine and saw it rise past the mounting holes, (front ones) got back under sled and freed that SOB. Everything is always easier after you have done it once.

Glad to hear it finally worked itself out!
