Anyone with the Yam service manual, can you please post the steps to replace the valve cover gasket. Do you just press on or does it require special sealant?

pull the cover off-remove gasket and clean very well in brake cleaner-remove ALL oil residue from cover and gasket-install gasket and dab a little GRAY permatex rtv around edges and seal the 1/2 moons to the cover very well-reintall as you did teardown
about an hours work-really simple
but be carefull of the coolant tube o rings-very delicate-use a little silicone spray to slide them back on the tube and clean/deburr the tube ends
drain the evac kit a little more often too!!

When you pull the coolant tubes take a shop vac and get rid of te antifreeze down in the valve cover pockets. If you get coolant down in the motor you better change the oil. Bearings do not like coolant.

Good luck

Thanks for the input! Should I drain all the coolant out before pulling the lines? The 1/2 moon is where the blowout occured on the chaincase side of the motor.

yes -lower the coolant level-i found its easiest to just unhook the lower hose under the secondary clutch and drain some out, being as the secondary has to come off anyways
youre luck the chainside popped-the clutch side makes a huge mess on the belt and clutches!!
