I just followed the directions in the tech section on swapping gears on my 06 Apex and everything went excellent except for one small problem....I can't remember how the little spring fits in between the the reverse gear. There is a hole on each gear where you could place the spring. Do you line up the holes and insert the spring, or do you put the spring in the opposite holes, putting pressure between the gears.
Any help would be great. Thanks

I aggree - line the holes up and place the spring in the holes. Doesnt make smuch sense to me either but I just replaced the drive bearing and had to open the chain case to push the shaft through as the bearing was siezed on the shaft. Needed to get a grip with a puller.
I called the yami dealer with this same question.

The only thing is when I line up the holes and place the spring inside both holes, there is not tension (spring pressure) pushing the gear back towards the chaincase cover. I swore that when I took the cover off, there was spring pressure there. None of the exploded diagrams show the correct placement of the spring.

spring
the little spring is not there to put opposing presure on the two gears. it purpose is to keep the two gears coming back to center on themselves .
if you had the two gears out of the case you will notice one is wider than the other. the wider gears goes to the inside of the case. holding the two gears together turn each in the oppsite direction. the spring will make them realign to the centre of each other.dont forget the washer that goes on top the shaft for the two gears

I was just looking at mine a few minutes ago as it was going back together. The spring isn't long enough to push the 2 gears apart much. I think it may be there to center themselves as you can feel a slight resistance twisting them either way. Whatever, as long as it's there it'll work as intended.
