An old topic but a good one.
On my son's 2007 FX, the reverse quit working. In the past you would hit the button on the guage pod, the light would turn yellow, then it would engage or I would have to lift the back end and drop it a couple of times for the reverse to engage.
Now, I hit the button, no yellow light. I can hear the switch in the guage pod clicking. No engagement for reverse down below.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

Reverse
Try to turn the key directly to start without waiting for the fuel pump and control lamps. If the reverse engage then, it is the throttle position sensor who is failed.

This may sound strange but mine did the same thing more at random for 1 year. took into the dealer and they chased it around most of the year. Found out the Throttle Positioning Sensor was bad, they replaced it and it never has worked better. There is also an adjustment on the 07 with that sensor for a certain ohm measurement not sure what it is. The dealer put probably 16 hrs. in my sled before talking to a Factory Yamaha Race Circuit guy to figure it out.
