I was tallking to someone the other day who was on a large bike ride in the USA. I had asked him how things worked for lunches as they had a group of 25 motorcyclests. This group was well organized with an emergency/planning team. So here's what they did and it worked out pretty good.
- Firstly they tried to plan their lunches between 11:00am and 11:30am arriving at the restaurant.
- The group of 25 riders had a SPOT GPS tracking unit in the group meaning that their emergency/planning team was monitoring the progress of the riders on Google Earth and it would show exactly where they were.
- The evening before, a restaurant menu was passed around to every rider to complete their food and beverage order and all were collected and a master food list was faxed to the restaurant followed up with a phone call by the emer/planning team indicating that they would be receiving a phone call precisely 45 minutes in advance of the arrival of the group of 25 riders.
- The emer/planning team monitored the SPOT GPS and when approximately xx number of miles from their lunch restaurant, the phone call was made and the riders showed up and basically had thier food ready to go. This cut down the time by almost 1/2 to 2/3 as the restaurants freak out and panic when 25 -35 people show up at one exact time.
Would this work for our ride?

That would work great....only have you seen these guys ever try and even leave a parking lot all at the same time, let alone all show up at a restaurant all at the same time ?!?!?!?!?!

Trail riding is not as precise as road rides. Lunch at Foggy's last year for March Muni ride was pretty good with something like 39 sleds in a little over an hour. I'd say they did well.
