I do a lot of solo riding. I actually enjoy it as I can put on some big miles only stopping for gas. Did a 400+ mile loop on Friday as a matter of fact.
It's really not a big deal and probably just as safe as riding in a group. Your more careful and aware of what you're doing, and it's hard to bar hop solo. lol.
I carry a gps so I can find the nearest gas or walk to the nearest road if need be. I think about getting one of those Spot satellite messengers, but I really don't ride in remote areas.

Always ride with a buddy if possible. I have ridden by myself but usually only in the daytime. Sled is very reliable but at night you never know when you might get stranded with no help for hours?
