AFter blowing the donuts three times and the Y-pipes twice, I replaced the titanium Y-pipes with stainless steel ones. They are a lot less brittle than the titanium ones are and cost 2/3 less. Adds a little weight, but who cares. Supposedly the SS pipes will last a lot longer and not cause the donuts to blow out. This is the set up that the RX-1 had, which got changed to save weight. I had almost 7000 miles on my RX-1 and never blew the donuts or did anything with the pipes.

I let mine go to long and had to replace one y pipe nd four donuts.
$83.00 for y pipe
18.00 each donut
four hours work. the y pipe took a lttle longer, the skid had to come out but in all the job was not hard at all.

Well, i replaced the donuts and found one Y pipe had a small crack on the flange. Put 260 miles on yesterday and after about 50 miles today she`s backfiring every time i come to a stop, so i can only assume that the crack is expanded. «just ordered the right side replacement pipe from port along with 4 more donuts. i hope that solves the problem

question ? ive noticed that the flanges that bolt down around the donut spin when fully compressed, do you need to grind down that spacer some or do the flanges need to be replaced as wel????

Same here rippinV. Mine would backfire every time I slowed down. Even though I knew it was coming, it still scared the crap out of me. I ripped it apart and left side pipe was cracked at flange.

My dealer told me the right side wouldn't be in for me until 3/19. You might want to check and make sure its coming!

You can expect it to happen unless you get a 2011 and we don't really know about them yet...

I was also wondering how you changed the speedo bearing on the trail... If my bearing went, I think Id rather tow it in and sit at the bar the rest of the night... fix it another day... Seams like you would have to have alot of stuff with ya to change it on the trail...

Also... How much more do the Stainless Y pipes weigh than the titanium... Hard to believe it could be any more than a pound or two...

I'm doing my donuts right now.The 2 allen head bolts closest to the flex pipes are rusted and stripped.I used the dremel to cut slots in them.I'll try to get them out with a BIG flat head driver.Just sprayed them.Let them sit overnight.Any other tips out there??Please?? :4STroke: :whine:

If that doesnt work I had to Drill them out with a left handed drill bit and then use a Screw removal tap to get it out.

Now I just have to figure out how to get my tap out of the bolt hahaha

Just drill out the ten rivets and lower the bracket down then re rivet

My buddy did that trick on his and replaced all rivets with STAINLESS machine screws & nuts...works great and makes it easy to take apart next time around.
