My dealer, who knows how I ride and the local conditions, recommended a 2-inch riser. I would like to make the seat as well-padded as possible...I am thinking 3" of additional padding. This would get my butt that much higher (being 6'1" on an RX-1 makes you sit LOW with your legs pointing up at a 20 degree angle) and make it easier to stand, and, of course, a more comfortable seat. This should get me up high enough, right?
Or is this wrong?
Will I need a taller windshield?

I would try your new setup first to see if you need a taller windshield. Installing a set of handguards like Pro-Tech or Rox would help protect your hands. They are cheap and easy to install yourself.

So much for that idea. I just bought an ECP kit, installed a Bender pipe, and stuffed my seat with 4" HD foam and WOW! what a difference in comfort just sitting on the sled. I'm thinking of pursuing the relocated steering column, but I want it to be trailable too.

I think 3" would be easier to stuff under the cover than 4" I'm actually 6'6" and 4" it made a world of difference - knees almost level with my hips now.

Look into a windshield extension from Sportech. They slide up and down and can be hidden when not needed. I have one coming.

How are you stuffing the foam under under seat cover??
How do you re-attach the cover?

I have the extra tall windshield from Yammie, ugly, but warm.

I did my best to explain what I did here: 2" of foam, very simple. 3" a little tougher. 4" You really have to stretch the cover over the foam, but it worked.

where did you get the 1" riser?

The 2" riser is fine with the stock windshield not any colder at all.

The top of my hands were colder w/ the 2" riser and the bar rotated fwd. I did 3" of foam to my 03 you problem could not do it yourself. I needed somebody to hold the cover while I stapled it.

just throw a set of handguards on ur bars....keeps 90% of the wind away from ur fingers and hands-cost like $50

I had Sportech's on mine, going to try the Powermad's next.
I did 4" of foam on my '04, by myself. You have to ride it like a surf-board while you stretch and staple it.
