I thought some more about this today and decided you needed some more information. The advice I gave you was based on my needs, and not necessarily your needs. I went with a 1" riser because I wanted higher handlebars that would
1) clear my knees when turning,
2) provide more leverage when turning,
3) make it easier to stand up and still control the sled while riding the trails, and
4) keep my hands inside the windshield protection.
The last point was highest on my criteria because like you, I do a lot of trail riding. Having your hands exposed to the wind on cold days can make for a miserable ride unless you install gauntlets, which I don't like.
Now if you do a lot of off trail riding, point #4 isn't that important because you are constantly moving your body and thereby keeping your hands warm. So you really need to decide what is important for you.

go 6" block-for u guys who say a 1" block is plenty...obviously u've never been on a powerline run...good luck-the point of raising ur handlebars is so u can STAND UP...not raise ur butt off the seat with ur knees and back bent over so after the first mile it already is starting to ache. i spent $160 on my setup-check it out

A couple of questions.
Is that the stock windshield?
Can you see the gages?
I went w/ 2" on the handle bar and 3" in the seat. I could go more in both. I am 5'10"
With the 2" on the handle bar I did notice the wind on the top of my hands. A pair of hand guards should that of that.

no thats not a stock windshield-its chrome
can i see the guages-HELL NO-if im sitting down, but when im standing up i can see them perfectly. i do check every once in awhile to make sure that i dont have anything wrong with my guages or any warning lights if i sit down for a period of time.
if anyone is thinking about getting risers and ur taller than 5'10 go ATLEAST 4" i would suggest using powermadd's setup, cuz u can get the pivot adapter and block riser-which will make ur bars more sturdy and will be a lot harder to move in extreme situations

Pimped, your bars look to be about the right height for me. What setup are you using? IE, cables stock or longer, how about the brake hose? Do you have a PN for the cables/brake hose if they are longer.
I'm thinking about going with a FLY 7" riser (allready have a pivot adapter with my Sportech ABR that should work) and Fly Aero Taper bars. The Fly bars don't have rise; just a 20 deg. sweep unlike the Pro Tapers you have. Right now I'm still crouched over to reach my bars while standing and I'm only 5' 7".

That was the point I was trying to make in my last post, that each rider must evaluate why they want a riser block and then determine what height would be best. I agree that if you ride a lot of off trail or maintain conditions that you would prefer something more than 1 inch. But for guys that ride mostly trails and are high mileage riders, more than 1-2 inches might be too much.pimpedrsrage said:go 6" block-for u guys who say a 1" block is plenty...obviously u've never been on a powerline run...good luck-the point of raising ur handlebars is so u can STAND UP...not raise ur butt off the seat with ur knees and back bent over so after the first mile it already is starting to ache.

my bars might look crooked cuz i might have had my sled crooked in the trailer-but i have noticed a little slop in the steering column-not too much tho. im using mtn brake hose and mtn throttle cable-05 mtn that is.

pimped, thanks for the info. Your bars look straight to me. It's just that the Fly bars I'm looking at don't have a rise in them like yours do. By rise I'm talking about the bend upwards in the middle alowing your bars to have a a cross bar with the Pro Taper pad on it. Your bars should also have a slight sweep back towards the rider (usualy 5 degrees). The Fly Aero Taper Mountain MX bars are completely flat across the top with a sweep of around 7 degrees if I remember correctly. This is why I figure at least a 7" riser plus the pivot adapter (8 1/4" total rise) to get my bars as high as yours. The rise set in the Pro Tapers apears to be about 2 - 2 1/2 inches.
I might have to check and see if the cables are actually different on the '05 mtn sleds. They claim the bars are taller and wider but, when I wrecked my sled and bent the bars I got the '05 bars. They were wider than the '03 but were actually 1" shorter in rise that is built into the bars. My '03 bars with the two riser were actually taller than the '05s' with the factory two inch riser. I actually was able to stick my 3/4" solid MPI riser block under the pivot adapter when I put the '05 bars on my '03.
I guess I'll just order the longer cables from MPI and have them if I need them when I order the weightless parking brake..

u might have to lengthen ur handwarmer wires if u plan on puttin that much rise in. but ur wires might be longer since u do have a mtn sled. but i had to lengthen mine cuz i couldnt get the handgrips around the end of the handlebar. i could get one grip on but not the other one-and yes i did take the bars off and tried monkeying them to work but they were bout 3 inches too short.

Thanks for the heads up on the warmers. I have wire if I need it and black shrinkwrap to make it look good. I think I'll buy the risers and bars if the cables work; great

redrx1rkt , did you try "rolling" the stock bars up ? I did this last year & noticed a big improvment. this may get you buy until you get that 07

BlgsRX1,
I have an 8 in art. riser and only had to replace the throttle cable (05 mountain). Everything else fits fine with a little rerouting.

im gonna have to ride my sled to see if its the perfect height or not, i might end up gettin an 8" block when its all said and done-but i need to watch my wire tensions tho-they didnt design these sleds for highrise handlebars
