well hello! I was just pointed over to this forum for some help! my dad has a 2003 RX1, last year it was really killing his back. I want to suprise him this year and put a 4 in riser extension on his sled and either have his seat redone to sit him higher or go with the APEX conversion i read about... one thing i am a bit confused on. i seem to be reading mix matched info.
If i put a 4 inch riser extension on his bars, will i only need the mountain cable and the rest will fit? Also, what risers would you recomend. thank you for your help i would really like the old man to be more comfortable on the trail so he and i can put as many miles on as possible
Riser recomdations, cables needed (part numbers would be awesome)
thanks!
hell while i am on the site what other mods would you recomend?

I just put a Apex seat on my 03 RX1, havent rode it yet, but I can tell you now it will be the best $300 I've spent on the sled. I compared stock seat vs Apex RTX seat, and there is no comparsin at all. I still have the factory bars, only reason being I cant find a set of 05 mountain cables. EVERYONE wants them haha. If you find someone who has some sets get at me! Heres a pic of the height difference from stock 03 to Apex RTX.

The RSI throttle extension for the SRX works great for the RX1. I put a 5.5 inch rise and have a little room to spare. I used the powermadd throttle extension for the choke and powermadd brake line. Probably could have got away with not using the brake line.

i do know that you will need the parking brake cable as i was not able to get my stock one to hook up with my 4" riser. i did all the cables and the line as well when i did mine.

i used a powermadd throttle extender.hibishman will have what you need .i am in winnipeg and i still have my warrior seat .black and silver , good condition , $100
I put 8 inch riser from lake effect. The only cables I had to get was the throttle and choke cables. All other cables were rerouted. The choke cable was alittle tight for my liking. The two cables I got were from a dealer and were $50 for both. I don't have part numbers I threw them away. They must be ordered for an 05 mountain. For you only going with 4inches throttle cable for sure but you might be able to skip choke cable. As for parking brake and other hoses and wires if you reroute them there is plenty of room. I still have stock bars on mine also. You might want to plan on hand guards to keep his hands out of the wind. Hope this helps.

The e brake needs to be taken out of the clip on top of the brake assembly. There is a gold colered bracket on the steering post that the cables go through. take that off. I don't remember what to do with the choke cable. I think that may be good when you remove the gold bracket. I called MPI and got a throtle cable for a 05 mountain RX1. That throttle cable works with my 6" riser and still has extra.

I am 6'1" and I did the apex seat with a 2" riser on my 03 and it is a completely different sled, I love it. I didn't have to change throttle cables. I am a sit down rider and the 2" is plenty and very comfotable. It would still be a bit low for stand up riders. Just a word of caution if you keep the stock cable and put a 2 or 3" riser on. Turn the skis all the way left and right while the sled is running and make sure the engine doesn't rev when you do it. I had to slightly straighten the metal bend on the cable where it attaches to the carbs.
