Looking for some suggestions. First year in the sport/hobby and only have 75 miles seat time so far. Got into into the sport because my girlfriend is an avid rider.
There is no snow in Western New York and Tug Hill appears to be the only consistent location in the area that has snow. I have read a lot of negative posts about T Hill including the recent accidents there. Is there a section of Tug Hill that is more laid back, more relaxed? We are looking to drive up there next week Thursday through Sunday, figuring Friday would be a bit calmer. Does such a place exist or should I just hope that old forge gets hit?
If I was to go to Tug Hill can anyone suggest a decent place to stay? Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Is there any snow left?
Stay at The Edge Hotel and go east on Sat. Or stay in Brantingham. On Saturday the trails will be trashed by lunch.
You might want to consider going farther north. Look around to see if there is any snow in Vermont or NH?

I ride the hill weekdays only. The traffic is heavy on weekends especially when the rest of the state is lacking snow. Most of the accidents tend to happen on the weekends. The conditions on Tug Hill are poor right now. With all the rain we've had there's a lot of ice on the trails which makes for dangerous conditions. South of the hill got snow last Thursday that significantly improved the trails but only a small area got coverage. I tend to like to stay on the South side which normally has less traffic than up on the hill. Unless they get significant snow I wouldn't make the trip.

if you get on tug hill during the week, you will find that teh entire area is an absolute blast to ride. i visit the area quite often and love the ride every time.
just like anything else you drive, always assume the worst when traffic coming at you and be aware of how many riders are coming etc..
The Montague is a great place to stay, along with the Timberview
there is NO SNOW ON THE HILL RIGHT NOW BTW

Tug Hill had a lot of rain yesterday and last night, so conditions will go down hill fast. They might pick up a little Lake effect snow today, but more rain is in store for Thursday and Friday, which could wipe out everything on the hill. The only good riding on the Hill last week was on the Southeast side of the hill. The rest was very thin and icy. The Northern part of the hill got very little snow last week. We had our Yearly Totally Yamaha ride last week, based out of Swancott Mills on the south side of the Hill. You should have came out and rode with us. We put on about 500 miles in 3 1/2 days riding. We had 4 people come out for the ride you were from south of Buffalo. Give me a PM if you are planning on coming out to ride the hill sometime and I will tell you where the best conditions are.
Thank you everyone for the information. We are trying to schedule time off and wanted to know our options. If we arrived next Thursday and rode on Friday would that be considered a week day or weekend?

I have been on the Tug for 4-5 years now and in opinion keeps getting worse and worse. The trails are great but the maintenance on them seems to be more lack lust every year. The amount of idiot riders is growing.
The way the weather has been the last few years, Im really thinking about getting out the sport, to much money and time being sunk into it for the amount of time I can actually ride t

as for conditions the tug will be trashed at this point. Is it rideable, yes but you can ride on grass too, so thats not saying much. I would say riding is a no go until the tug gets a solid foot.

a majority of the trails on the Hill have been closed due too lack of snow.. wait till an "actual" snow fall before attempting ride up there. people are already ruining our trail system for riding on grass on someones personal property..

Not sure what Old Forge conditions are like right now but it's a little more family oriented than Tug Hill. I've ridden Tug Hill once and I refuse to ever ride it again. WAY more accidents than any other area. Plus the trails there are not that great in terms of scenery and such. They get the traffic because they get the snow. When I am forced to ride in NY I like the northern Adirondacks because there's no traffic and I know where I'm going. But there's not many trails up here at all.
Thanks for the updates/suggestions. Even though I just got into this sport I will not abuse the system of great trails in NY and risk loosing what we have. I am into off roading and have to trailer my rig 5 hours to enjoy the sport.
I am hoping for more snow next week before I make the decision if a trip is in my future. Was hoping to go to old forge but the snow band just doesn't travel that far north very often.

I guess with the warm weather expected I will not be going to the hill next weekend. Sad, willing to drive over four hours in any direction and there is no snow to be found.

Keep heading further north to Island Pond, VT or Pittsburgh, NH. Not gonna find any decent snow in NY after the warm up and rain this week.
