Here in northern n.y. we have had a lot of ice. about 8" of snow with 3-4" of ice on top and then another 2-3" of snow on top of that. temps have been below 0 f , the last 2 days have been around 32 f which has softened up the hard ice. there was 4 of us riding side by side through a field at about 50 mph. in this field there was a ditch about 3 feet deep that was completely covered with ice and snow which made it seem flat like it wasn't even there. the other 3 sleds drove right over with no problem. I fell through the ice and the sled slammed into the ditch, through me off and rolled 3-4 times. I believe with the steering column completely bent this is going to affect the brace around the motor and the suspension is shifted to one side and rubbing on the tunnel bad. sled still starts and moves. drove about 100 feet to the road to load in a truck. in my opinion it should be totaled, just broke 100 miles on the sled. calling the insurance company tomorrow. I know Yamaha does not have the parts avalibale to fix it, if it is fixable. not a good start to this season.

Unfortunately this could happen to anyone at any time... especially on lakes with pressure ridges.
Sorry to hear this happened. I sure hope it is a write off and you can get the machine replaced. Hey thats what insurance is for! $&#@ happens!
Good to hear you were not hurt... 50MPH can be unforgiving.

Good to hear you are not hurt. Perfect time to suggest wearing a tekvest, #*$&@ happens and fast. You could have easily broken ribs in that scenario.
As for the Viper...Rest in pieces!.

Post's seem to bend easy. The rear tunnel section can be replaced sepertatly if they don't fix it I would buy it back, it is a quick and easy fix.

Dude, you're very fortunate to have walked away. Sorry to hear of your accident but happy to hear you're OK. Shite can happen at anytime, at any speed. That's why we have insurance and that's why I always wear a TEKVEST !!!
Good luck with the claim......hope all goes well.

That sucks. Hopefully it will be totaled and you can replace it quickly. Where were you? As you can see from my location, I am not far from you. Glad you're ok.

Hope you are OK, the sled is unimportant in the big picture. It would really suck if it isn't totaled especially with the lack of parts.

Well lets see........
Purchase price $12,987.00
Less Depreciation $ 3,295.00
Less Deductible $ 1,000.00
Here is your check for $8,692.00. Thats what Progressive did to me when I totalled an Apex on the 3rd day I owned it.

I know in my case I left my sled at my dealer and he made the case for me. The adjusters are familiar with them and their location. The dealer was also able to justify the aftermarket items I had installed (by them). Discussions regarding lack of parts can best be substantiated by the dealer also. So maybe you can discuss with them.

Thanks guys. A sore wrist is all I got out of, very lucky. Just placed my claim with Statefarm, waiting for a call back. I'm hoping they total it and will try to do a buy back. Dealer is closed today but will call tomorrow to see if they can help me out. Be careful out there.

i highly doubt they total the sled. i had a 2006 apex that i hit a driveway with at 80. not a bad launch but the landing was terrible. twisted the tunnel, ripped off the gauge cluster head light and all, bent 2 a arms, busted the h frame in the rear suspension, cracked one front spindle and ripped the track. 4500 in damage and the sled had 6500 miles on it and was 6 years old. they did not total it! said it was worth 6500 and cheeper to fix it for 4500 than right me a check for 6000 which is what i had it insured for. (less my 500 deductible) if you have a good dealer they can work with you to cover your deductible.

That's called insurance fraud. Tread lightly.
