RPM.... where are you??

hey guys i have just shy of 600 miles on my viper ltx and i'm having a little bit of an rpm problem. i know i saw this topic somewhere before but i couldnt find it... anywho here it goes. on hard pack after initial hit of the throttle rpm jump to 8300-8400 and settle down to 8040. we rode on tug hill the last few days and got on a few groomer paths where there was 1 or 2 passes made and rpm settled in around 7980.... i know everyone is saying you should get 8900-9000 rpm what can i do?? thanks in advance

Well :- first I would contact dealer and have them check out the clutches and clean them , maybe something is broke or there's belt dust making them sticky !

I have 3700 km and sled is running consistently topped out at 101 and 102 mph, stock. As these motors keep breaking in they get Faster and stronger.

That's pretty much what was happening to me except I was exploding belts with the Turbo. Really try the 8DN belt, it has helped a lot of people! Real simple to do and worth the time! And I think you won't have the rpm issues anymore!

Thanks for the posts guys... Sled is going in for the first 500 mile service so I'm gonna have the dealer check it out and see what they have to say... Unfortunately I think by the time I get it back the snow will be gone out here in western ny :/

Well if you loose your snow make a trip back up to tug hill we just got a decent amount of snow again from the storm that went through as far as rpm goes you are losing a lot of power with the engine running that low. There has been a lot of people with clutching issues on this sled..99% of what I've heard is rpm is too low. Mine would settle in right around 86-8700 and real long runs on perfect hard packed snow. Clutch kit completely cured that as I went with the D&D kit with adjustable weights. Keep in mind, each sled is different and each rider has their own personal preference. I would personally get on the phone with some clutch kit companies and get something that is going to cure your rpm problem and at the same time give you some added performance. Clutch kits are free hp in the sense that the power is there..you just need to allow the clutches to properly put the power to the track. I'm sure there are things you can do here and there to make stock clutching work but personally if it were me I'd install a reputable clutch kit that has been tested and tuned and you know will work
