Do any of you out there with a Nytro seem to constantly have to clean the carburetors early? My dad's sled seems to not want to get fuel and just sits there and kills every time you hit the throttle and when you do get it moving, it wants to be jerks with the throttle. It seems like we have had this issue the past three years and at the end of the year we run sea foam through it on a full tank and still have the issue. What can we do to prevent this and what could we do to get the thing running fine for this winter?

Yes, clean the carbs, for some its a yearly thing... Best way to help is to install fuel shut offs and run the carbs dry, then take the bowl drain screws out and get the remaining gas out... There is no way to completely prevent it with todays crappy gas IMO

It sounds like your dad's sled is not getting fully warmed up. My Vector acts just like that if I try to take off right away when the cold light shuts off. I typically need to let it warm up another 2 to 5 minutes after the light shuts off and sometimes give it a little choke for the 1st mile. Maybe his thermostat is stuck open. The sled will never warm up on a cold day and will run like crap unless you're going more than a quarter throttle. Sorry 1973, but on this site, just about any engine issue is blamed on bad gas. It can definately be a problem, but if the guy keeps cleaning the carbs and it keeps happening, it's probably something else.

Could there be another problem? Anything is possible... This is the most likely scenario, he never said that he cleaned the carbs already did he?

Does the sled run better with the choke on? Whens the last time the carbs were done? Do you do any of the things I listed in my first post when it is put into storage?

I guess I took the highlighted text from 1234 to mean they constantly clean the carbs "early"and ran Sea Foam at the end of the season for 3 years running, and it still does it.

No problem, 1973. Believe me, I worry a lot about bad gas. I treat my last tank and start it up every 4 to 6 weeks in the off season. BTW, the gas line shut offs are a great idea. They should be standard equipment.

I didn't even read the post - my answer is clean the carbs - the pilot jets gun up real easy - i used to clean the pilots on my sons nytro frequently - had it so i didn't even have to remove them.

Although it seems some places (provinces, states)get sh*ttier gas than others, and it may not help, but I would run Sea-Foam through the sled more periodically.

I use it at the end of season like you do but I also use it through out the season at least 3-5 times depending on the amount of sledding I get in.
It can't hurt, and it will definitely help to keep everything clean, especially the carbs through out the season.

We've cleaned the carbs the last two years and spent a little extra time last spring to try our best to prevent it, but it's just frustrating when you have to do it each year. Looks like I will have to learn how to do it on the new sleds because taking it to a dealer def. gets spendy. Any advice?

Try running Ethanol free gas if you can get it, and if not, then more Sea-Foam throughout the season.

Its part of owning a carbed snowmobile... Get them good and clean and follow the steps in my first post, that will help

First thing to do is clean the carbs then get a can of mechanic in a bottile and mix some in the gas and take her for good run. Next spring get some Av Gas put at least three gallons in the sled and put some more mechanic in a bottle in the gas and fill the tank to the brim. Make sure to run this mixed gas long enough so that it fills the carbs. I start mine once a month through the summer and I make sure they are very hot prior to shutting them down.

That's one job I never got around to doing Grizztracks :o|

I saved your link in my favorites last year so it will get done at some point, but not likely this riding season.

Thanks again for doing that, it is a great post! ;)!
