Has anyone had the issue of an RS Rage starting with the choke on but dying as soon as it gets turned off? I know about the TORS and read the owners manual but it seems TORS is a component that shuts down the sled altogether not just at idle. This is a stock sled, 05 with only 300 miles. As a new member I appreciate any advice before I tear into this thing......
Thanks,
Brian

Clean the carbs and start it up with fresh gas.

I can't be positive, but I'm pretty sure TORS doesn't kill the sled. It just limits your engine RPM to a level below clutch engagement. Your choke and TORS system are totally seperate. I have to agree with the last post in that it is some sort of fuel delivery issue. Bad gas or dirty carbs are going to be the culprit!

I agree too, Dirt in the pilot jet/s (carbs)

An 05 with only 300 miles... sat around alot and if it was not stored properly (Sta-Bil in the fuel) the carbs are definately the problem.
Seen this one before on any type of motor known to man kind. Disconnect the fuel lines and spray some carb cleaner right down them. After that get some fuel shutoffs and when your not going to ride it for a long time turn them off and run it out of gas.

Thanks, I appreciate your replies. I am going to try the cleaner down the fuel line before I do anything else. I had a feeling it was fuel. What makes me mad is all the effort I put into summerizing it. 10gl fresh fuel, fuel stabalizer and then running a can of fogger in it, and it wont run!

I am having the same problem with my 06 vector. (see my post and replies under the topic of Rough Idle). I tried changing the fuel and plugs. I also add stabilizer every year and still have the problem this year. I am convinced it is a jet problem now and am taking it into the dealer to clear up.

IMO, this have to be a 2 smoke thing, i did that for storage the first year(05) with my Genesis then was good for two plugs at start up. Only Stabil since then.

Stored in a super dry garage with a full tank of gas (no stabilizer) charger on the battery, ran it every couple of weeks until all coolers are hot (not too hot) no problems so far, starts and runs great.

You will never get by not cleaning the pilot jets on these sleds, they are so small some even get plugged during the winter. I tried a new trick last fall and when I was reassembly my RX i popped the jets out of the carbs and I still had 3 out of 4 plugged solid.
Pop the carb rack off, remove the bowls on the bottom and blow out the jets. She'll run like a top then.
My only grip of the yamaha carbed sleds is this small jet that always plugs. Did it on my viper as well.

Has anyone had any luck with carb/fuel injection cleaners in the tank?
From SnowTech Sept 2007
"From a reactive stand-point, we've found a product called "Schaefer's Neutra' to really do the job when you need to clean the fuel system. A 12 ounce bottle added to 10-12 gallons really makes a difference. Dissolving and removing the gum, varnish and internal residue is where this product shines."

But did it work? I mean, did you have gummed jets before the seafoam and then clean jets and carbs after adding seafoam? I have used it in my truck before but not in a sled yet.

we have used it in a ton of tractors, forklifts and such that w buy. They come in running like $hit, pour in the seafoam and let them run, and you can hear them start to ru better. Maxdlx
