Hi Gang,
I'm new here to this site. Riding a Yamaha now but have ridden other brands over the years. Last sled was an 01 Skidoo Grand Touring 700.
The Yami has the power and torque I had hoped for. As much if not more power than the 700 twin I've just left.
I have set up the suspension the way most of you here have. I think though after riding today I'm going to decrease the ski down pressure by increasing the pressure on the front skid shock. Today the sled just seemed to follow other ski ruts too easily. Darting. Going to run the stock skis and carbides till the end of this season. Then see what you all are running and see how you like em.
Two questions. First, for me the throttle lever is not comfortable. The pointy tip on it just wears on my thumb after a while. On my Skidoo I got out a heat gun and molded the lever to make it comfortable. Should I do that to this also or do you guys have a better suggestion?
The second question is for Hondo. Hey Hondo. Who did your seat? I'm 6'4 and would love to not have to sit on the bump when I feel like sliding back.
Any info guys would be appreciated. I will fill my profile shortley.
Thanks,

I bought the 2010 TF version and after 400 km I think I have the suspension where I want it. The TF has a little stiffer suspension than the GT and I dont have the clickers so I'm not set the way all u GT owners are:

-front shocks are set on the stifest (159mm)

-rear shock 5 turns softer than the softess owners manual setting
-rear block to soft

With this setting I have no ski lift and very stable crossing banks at an angle. The only irritation I have is that hump on the seat. Much more room on my 07. If Hondo could give us pics of what he did with his seat?

Up to just a couple of hundred clicks on the odometer. I have backed off one turn on the front skid shock. I might just back it off a titch more. It's pretty close right now. It does corner very well right now and I think I would like it to give a bit more in the corners.

The other shock settings seem to be great. I used the settings that some of you guys recommended and posted here. The sled rides much better in the bumps than my 2001 Skidoo Grand Touring 700 which was the ZX chassis.

Had to adjust the throttle trigger angle down. Was way to high and uncomfortable. Easy to do. Two phillips screws in the housing. Loosen, adjust and retighten.

The seat is good but would like to have the passenger step up area back about 2 or 3 more inches. I saw in a post that Hondo had an upholstery job done to accomodate him better. Asked him for info but have not heard back yet. He must be piling up the mileage out in the wilds of Maine.

The motor on this thing is more than I ever expected. It is a monster.

Really happy so far!

I have 5500 Kms on my 09 gt and love it , I think the thing runs better now than the day I bought it , Hope to get up to 10000 Kms this winter but There is some warming coming :die

I have same sled was wondering what your suspension set up is, and your limiter strap set at. I also love this sled was in Haliburton forest yesterday condition were great.

These are great sleds, I got a 09gt last season put about 1500miles on it, handles great with some adjustments and new ski's. My last sled was a 07 apex rtx, and I don't miss it, the venture handles better in the twistys and is so warm, I have no problem staying on my cousins tail and he has a tnt.

I add some cobra head to the skis. What a difference. Now I need to make some suspension adjustments for ski lift in the corners any ideas. My sled has handle bar vibration. How yours ?

Loosen up the lock nuts in the front and level out your a-arms. Should help with the cornering. Play with your front rebound for the vibration.

I have the limiter straps set stock from factory.

I have the front shocks rebound and compression damping (knobs) set at the middle of each range.

The spring compression (Large Adjustment Rings) are set with 2.185 space inside to inside of each locknut. I did have less space when I started (softer spring compression) and the sled did have too much ski lift. When you increase the spring compression (spinning the lower ring down to compress the spring) you are essentially supporting the outside of the sled in a turn counteracting the centrifugal force to the outside of the turn. With the setting of 2.185 inches the ski lift has been eliminated and the sled still absorbs the bumps fine.

I have the front skid shock turned up enough (compressed) to have the sled track well but still feel light up front. I don't want the sled to follow other tracks and feel like I'm fighting it. It still turns great into the corners. This is a very personal feel for setting this.

The rear skid shock tube has only compression and/or the damping and rebound adjustment. These are both set to the middle settings.

The rear spring is adjusted with the spring block with you turn with the tool in your kit. I have mine set to the lightest setting. The sled absorbs bumps great and I have not bottomed out at all.

My stats are 250lbs. 6'4". 50 years young. Been riding a very long time. Ride at a variety of speeds in a variety of trails. My wife rides on the back once in a while so I want the sled set up for solo riding and will only adjust the rear spring when I will spend the day 2 up with her.

These settings seem very good to excellent at the moment though I will probabley still tinker. Not sure yet.

Thanks for sharing your set up. I also want my sled set for solo riding. My wife is also an occasional rider, let snow
