I am approching 1000 miles on my sled. I am interested in getting the maximum life out of my engine. What is the best oil that I can use? I have had good luck with Mobil 1 in my personal vehicle. Is it safe to use the Mobil 1 synthetic motercycle oil (10W-40) in my sled?

Thanks in advance for your edvice!

I switched to amsoil 0w40 after about 2000 mi. There was a noticable reduction in idle rattle and the sled started easier in the cold. I was riding for a few days that ranged between -30 to -50.

FYI my sled used about 1 qt per 1500 mi during a trip with extended high speed riding. At home were 40 mi twisty trail speeds are more previlant, I had not noticed usage. I was not able to see if the usage continued on the home trails after my last trip as the snow was gone.

Don't use Mobil one.

I emailed Mobil one with the Yamie Spec's and they said that they did not have a product that complies with Yamie's specs.

Anyone know were I can get a case of the Amsoil and what does it cost??

I USE KLOTZ 4 STROKE SNOWMOBLIE OIL AND IT SEEMS TO WORK GOOD AND HAS A NICE OIL SCENT.BUT I HAVE ALWAYS LIKED KLOTZ OIL IN MY RACE SLEDS.

Actually, as far as lubricity, mobile1 exceeds Yamaha specs. The only point where it is against yamaha specs is where it says "do not use oils of a higher grade than "CD", and Mobile1 is "CF". The *reason* that Yamaha gives not to go over CD is to avoid starter clutch slippage. Rubbish. This oil has been tested in RX1 and the starter clutch does NOT slip, so Mobile1 is ok to use.

Thank you all for your replies! Snowmobileing (or should I say snowmachineing as we call it Heer in Alaska) is a new hobby of mine. My RX-1 Mountain is my first snowmobile. I enjoy it verry much and wont to learn as much as I can about how to make my sled run good and last a long time. I wont to put the best product in my sled to protect my investment.

A few questions that I have about Amsoil is why is the product not marketed and sold in stores like all of the other major brands? Is it truely better then a name brand product like Mobil 1? What is the major difference in Amsoil and Mobil 1?

Where I ride the tempetures get well below 0F. I haent had any problems with cold weather starts but have experienced the "tapping sound" that people have talked about on this forum.

thanks
James

Chev,

I'll give you my $.02 on your questions.

Amsoil has chosen a marketing strategy similar to that of Amway. Direct marketing and a pyramid type arrangement. Although from what I have seen not the pressure that Amway has by any means! They do have a retailer program too though. One of there "dealers" can sign up a retail store such as your local sled/bike shop.

As for it being better or not (than other brands)....... That is an endless argument. Some say yes some say no. Is Chevy better or is Ford? One thing I like about Amsoil is they do a lot of scientific testing and are not afraid to publish the results. As a matter of fact they seem to be very happy and proud to publish the results. Do other companies do these tests? I'm sure they do. However, they either don't publish the results or don't do it as widely as Amsoil. Are these tests biased? Probably, but again it is something at least. A company that does that much testing and goes through that much trouble to publish the results obviously isn't afraid to stand behind those same tests. It seems they have nothing to hide.

I like Amsoil and have used it for several years now. Is it the best? I'm not a chemist so I guess I will never know for sure. What I do know is that it has worked VERY well for me, they publish tests that say it is the best or at least very good, and it is priced very well.

how much per qt.

how much is a qt.of amzoil,i have used it before in sleds and liked it,but saw no performance gains like most of them claim, yamaha is $3.50 per qt.now the way mine uses oil i could go broke in a hurry if amzoil is double the price.lol

now lb to the debate over chevy/ford/cough chrysler

Are u serious u want to compare a chevy/ford to a chrysler, wow do they still make them lol chevy all the way,its kinda like the color thing, about the BLUE rx1 being much faster than those other colors, non yamaha colors you know. he he

I am using bel ray petroleum in mine still, next oil change it will get Amsoil. I do not believe in using synthetic too early, before good ring seal is achieved. I have been an amsoil believer and dealer/retailer for years.
