I AM GOING TO CONTINUE TO USE YAMAHA OIL AT $ 3.95 A QT VS AMSOIL AT $ 6.50 A QT. I JUST CAN'T SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN PRICE DOING ME ANY GOOD.

Mobil 1 15W-50 pours at -40Far and on the hot end you can fry it in a pan and it remains stable while a petroleum based oil of 5W-30 at -40 you will have to squeeze it out of the bottle and it will turn into tar in the frying pan. Here's the key; you cannot compare regular oil to synthetic! There is no comparison! Synthetic does everything better! And I don't want to hear that you can't use it in the RX-1 I have been using this Mobil1 15W-50 in motorcycles and ATV's for the last ten years Yes and it is the automotive blend, and I will use it in my new RX-1 Warrior without reservation First off, you can buy it anywhere, secondly you can get it for $4.25 a QT and third it works very well in the harshest environment for Motor Oil: Motorcycles and ATV's where it is lubricating the Engine, Transmission, Wet Clutch, and Starter Clutch. Will it work well in the RX-1?
YOU BET IT WILL The 15W-50 is designed for High Revving and Hard working engines in harsh environments!
And here's another little tid bit; Harley for years had many buying there oil, and guess what? It's made by Sunoco, Ka Ching!!! And Harley for years said: don't use Synthetic or your connecting rod bearings would skate Well, Harley now offer's there new Tri Syn Oil( Full Synthetic) that can be used in the Engine, Transmission, and Primary for only $8.95 a QT. Ka Ching
Interesting isn't it the bearings don't skate anymore Because Harley is selling it, and I might add at a very good mark up Now here is what ices the cake; if you look at a Mobil 1 container you will see "TRI-SYNTHETIC FORMULA" makes you wonder

User manual specifies 5w30. You should use THAT in RX1.

What happens when the tempature goes beyond 60 that the manual says 5w30 is good for.Say july and 80 degees, what than 10-30. What does the bike motor take?

Hmm.. well if you're doing grass and/or pavement in the summer... then you should probably use the heavier oil. For the rest of us normal people who use summer toys in the summer instead of pretending that its winter all year round, we don't have to worry about it being 60 degrees.

Oil, lazybastard
lazybastard,
You took the words right out of my mouth. I believe that any major brand oil, syn, or not, will work great. there is a lot of misinformation out there. A guy on the C5 forum (Corvette) made a post that he changed his oil, and filter at 100 miles, then at 300 miles, then every 1,000 miles. Nobody on the forum questioned it. Common sense is what I use.
A good example is the fable that you have to break a track in before studding. I wonder how the racers do that. One that has been debunked already is about running a hot screwdriver into the stud holes to seal the strands of nylon.

Regular petroleum based 5W-30 oil is good from about 0 to 90 degrees Farenheit. Mobil 1 15W-50 is good from -60 to 300 degrees farenheit.
You can see there is no comparison  The thing is this; when they rated the Mobil 1 15W-50 it was originally marketed towards High performance cars  It just so happens that it works extremely well in Motorcycles, ATV's and now snowmobiles that like to REV 8)
And if they rated it according to what it's capable heat range was it would read something like this: Mobil 1, 0W-100. In turn the average consumer would not understand this and would not purchase it :!: So this is why it is labeled as such. You can also use Amzoil 0W-40 which is a very good synthetic oil. But I have seen some tests done on the Mobil 1 15W-50 in motorcycles and it comes out on top  And like I mentioned in the previous post Motorcycles and ATV's are said to be the harshest environment for Motor oils, because the transmission gears are cutting the molecules of the oil, especially in air cooled engines.
Remember guys I'm just sharing my experience and knowledge on the subject I have taken some courses in lubrication and I am not an employee of Mobil. But I do highly recommend "Synthetic Oil" and you can use what brand you want! But I choose Mobil 1 because of price, and availability. 8)

I put a post on here earlier about Mobil 1 oil. I E Mailed Mobil 1 to see if it met Yamaha's Specs and the answer was NO. So I won't use it, why take the chance .

Snorover, wise choice. I was allways a fan of Mobil 1, never had a problem. But I am an Amsoil dealer & retailer, so I now use all the products. All my road vehicles have been switched over to Amsoil also. Amsoil is approved for use in the RX1 as they have a motorcycle blend oil specifically.
silverbullet, which avatar are you referring to I switched 3 times yesterday.
