So this morning I started my 03 RX-1 and it started fine also seemed to have lots of battery power to crank it over. I started riding for 1.5 km's and it just died and that was it. When I turn the key there's nothing not even a click from the starter.I tried boosting it with battery cables but that was a waste of time.
Anyone have any ideas what this could be?

pull your stator covor and get the oil tank out of the way as I will say that the starter ring gear has clipped one of the wires, your dealer should have a picture of this in the 04 tech book. It is possible that your harness had rubbed on the frame and the same book will show the wear points for that as well

Common problem for 03RX - front end, remove the toolbox and beer holder. Under there is the rectifier/voltage regulator. TWO SMALL WHITE wires - rub against the frame and short out.

That doesn't sound like the problem though, I don't recall the problem causing it to fail to crank.

Could also be that your starter solenoid remained ON after starting, this would drain the battery, kill the starter motor, possibly fry a few things.

The dumbest possible problem..... did you accidentally hit the kill switch?

Sounds like the identical symptoms from my 03 LE from last season. Hope you have better luck......my starter was frozen.....like it was welded internally. $489 later all has been fine ever since.

Mine died on the trail last year .......nothing on the key......stone dead.....turned out it was some of the wires underneath the toolkit but more toward the oil tank was shorting out on the frame. electrical tape and some twist ties and been fine ever since,it was someone on here that helped me with it.

If this happens and you're real lucky (I was, and it sounds like buddah2 wasn't) the main fuse at the front, under the airbox will blow and the starter will quit, as will the engine and all the electrics.
First thing I'd check is this fuse (30 amp if I remember correctly). If it's blown......replace it AND the starter solenoid (they're cheap).

there is a tan colored wire that runs down the steering colum that can get pinched when the bars are turned and hit the stops, this usually blows the 10 amp ign. fuse and the sled dies completely, wont crank or anything. check this carefully, just a nick in the wire will short out and blow the fuse.

Yeah.....I didn't read LB's post thoroughly first......that's EXACTLY what happened to mine!

fuse and bare wire

I had a similar occurrence on my '05 on my last sledding trip. No engine troubles for 2 days of riding. Then after the last stop on the third day, it fires up fine, but 1/2 mi. down the trail it just shuts off. Turn the key and no power whatsoever. Figured it was electrical and found a 10 amp fuse blown. So, I replace it with a spare, start it, and go another 50 yards and the same thing happens. Turns out a wire was rubbing on the frame as stated above. Remove your tool box and wrap the wires. Keep them away from the frame. Hopefully, that's all your problem is. Good luck.

Whoa whoa whoa, stop the press. There is a BEER HOLDER on the 03's? How did I not notice???

I didn't even know I had a tool box. Lol. So its all under the cowl on what side?
