RX-1 died

cruising along a secondary trail yesterday and my o5 RX started to skip, I looked down and had no gauges. It then popped once and died. i opened the hood and smoke was coming out from down below the #3 and #4 cylinder, right from the starter area. It wouldn't even begin to turn over-no power. My thought is that the starter burnt out ond killed the battery. I could see no burnt wires and checked all the fuses. I then had to be towed to the nearest gas station by a polaris who was more than happy to do it!!!! A phone call and an hour wait for the rescue vehicle later I was saved--but not happy.
Any other ideas as to what happened? My dealer isn't open untill tues. and I have riding planned for next week. I know it probely warrenty but it is dissapointing to say the least. I switched from arctic cat to yammi for the reliability, so far not so good.

Someone eles on here had a stuck starter relay that burned out the starter and ran the battery dead while they were riding. It always sucks to be the one in a thousand to have a defective part on a new piece of equipment

Happened on my 04 warroir(150 miles)replaced relay & starter --worked 100% ever since.

It also happened to my 03 LE earlier this year..........riding along, misfire, and dead.........no guages or anything. Coasted to a stop. Starter was like welded to itself. Couldn't turn motor in reverse by hand until new starter put in. Weird!!!
