My friend Andy just did this to his 03 Shorty and I am having it done to my Warrior. Trying to prevent any hot engine air from mixing with the cold air before entering the filters. Will post results when we get a chance to ride.

Using the flap was a neat idea. I was just wondering how you are going to know if it improved anything by riding it.

Well it was just a used one to try, i have a new one coming. Not sure if it will make an improvement or not but it looks pretty cool. Also thought it might only suck in cool air from the hood insted of getting heat from the lower part of the engine. Andy

Yea plus it helps hold the carb rack in place.

If anybody does this make sure you cut the flap long enough to go under the filters. The flap will fit right into the battery holder and will keep it secure and leave clearence around the filters.

Andy,
The SRX was the fastest sled in its class, and more. It also was the only Yamaha that did not have a cold air source to the airbox. My wife's XT500 has an outside air source to the airbox.

RX-1 YOOPER, this is true but with all the hype last year on this and other sites about the RX-1 pulling in heat and belt dust because of the airbox design i thought this could'nt hurt. Iam sure it does'nt increase much if any but it sure makes for nice fit and finish.
