This is one thing that has me just a little nervous about my new RX-1. From what I have seen on this site I think I will like my new sled. But over the last 2 years I have went to 6 drags. I have never seen a RX-1 win or make it to the finals. At The last one all I seen was F-7's wining and I didn't even see a RX-1 in the race. We have a drag strip in back of my home. We run 660 ft on our strip and...I HOPE... I will do better in that distance. We do most of it in the winter on frozen grass and a little snow. This year I will be inviting anyone from this site that wants to come and run your sled. I live in the lansing mi area. I will give details some time later. Do you guys think with a good clutch kit I will have any chance of even coming close to my brothers CPR cluched F-7.???

This is my first year on an RX-1 so I'm just guessing, but I would think that because of it's wieght, you would have better luck against him on longer runs - top speed runs - as compared to 660'. Wieght has less of an impact on top speed as opposed to acceleration. 8)

Being these are four strokes, you have more torque. Therefore, the torque should make up for the difference in weight.

You will get close, but you will need more than a clutch kit. CPR clutched
F7s are very quick and also have a lot of top end. We have radared
them at 113 on hard pack and have seen some go 116 on ice
clutched and studded only. Take it for what it's worth, I'm sure a lot
of people will argue that they have never lost to an F7 with their RX
but most of them know the real truth. I also have owned 2 RX and
still have one, I also have a CPR clutched F7 and neither RX could
touch the F7 in any distance. One Rx has even been dyno tuned
and had Bender exhaust, ECP filter kit, Bender clutch kit, Team
secondary, Lightweight battery and a 9830 Camoplast track with 144
studs. Believe me I still love Yamaha but the F7 just flat out
performs better than the RX1. Think about it, similar HP- F7 460 Lbs
RX1 560 plus.

The F-7 is a fast sled and they do very well at the grass drags, but that doesn't mean you will always get beat. The RX-1 needs traction to harness the power of the engine. Make sure you have studs if running on hard pack surfaces.

Read this link from last winter on racing on hard pack surfaces.

All you have to do is look at the posts responding to your posts. None telling about the wins in the drags. You will hear many posts about beating Bubba's ZR900 in uncle Joe's hay field, but hardly ever hear about an RX1 even entering a sanctioned drag race. Face the facts, and ignore the bull. The RX1 is not a sled that can compete in a drag race.

I talked to my friend, that owns Team Highland, and runs enduro with Cats. He was complaining about the fact that RX1s will still be allowed to run the Soo 500. They run against 600 cc sleds. He admitted that the RX1 will dominate this race, and I have to agree with his opinion that they should not be able to compete in a race that has every other sled that is a 600 2 stroke. I was at the race last year that would have been won by RX1's if it wasn't stopped because of the death.

I'd rather have my Yamaha reliability. The Cats may be fast and all, but stock for stock sleds I hear of more problems with Cats than anything. I'm not a racer so I like to ride my sled, not work on it.

Hey Yooper, what was the cause of death for the RX in the race last year?

I pretty much agree with all of this. The RX-1 is plenty fast, but it will lose to a lot more F7's than it will beat. However, other than the F7 and the new Mach Z, there isn't another sled out there you should lose to. Consider the workmanship and quality and the RX-1 wins hands down for me.

If you want to win, drop the cash for a Turbo and the party will be all over.

By the way, my baby arrived today!!!

Impala,
A Polaris had an RX1 on his butt at 172 miles when a Cat rider went out of control, and hit several people in the infield, killing a woman. There were so many injured from the race, and on the trails, the hospital was full, and they didn't have an ambulance. The workers were all freaked out, and cancelled the rest of the race. They threatened to never have another, but apparently changed their mind. The way it looked, the RX1's would have dominated the top 10 if the race went 500 miles. Polaris has owned the race in recent years.

Hey QCRider, my dealer also sells Ski-Don't. If I didn't ride Yamaha's, I'd be riding those. Anyway, he said that the new Mach Z could be a problem and was glad there were limited numbers because the mechanics would be busy.

Yooper, I should get Snow-Week again, I'm missing out.

O.K...So it's the 100 lbs difference in the sleds that is the big problem in the drag's. If I could just get my brother to let me put a 100 lbs bag of cement on his F-7's hood then we would have a race...I really do think the weight thing will be hard to overcome. last year when his F-7 was stock my other brother and I could just beat him with our CPR piped VIPERS. 3 week's ago he put the CPR kit on his F-7 and on our strip, he gained 14 mph on radar in 700 ft. I knew right then we was 'all' in trouble . Do you guys think I will at least run with my other brothers CPR piped VIPER???. I would be very happy with that....

It will be interesting to see who goes to four stroke in the future. The whole thing with the two stroke is bad emissions, and look what Ski-Don't just did, made high performance two stroke and made it 2006 EPA compliant. Yes you still have the stink, but I'd like to know what they did.

I dont know about grass drags, BUT... The guy who bought my old WRECKED warrior and fixed it up raced it on some ice right after he got it running again and Kicked butt.. winning the race that day! He said it was a traction race!! it was 1/4 mile!

Impalapower,,, That 'stink' thing and the smoke is what the environmentalist really want to get rid of, no matter how good the emission's are. Anyway the standerds dont get hard until 2012... Now back to my question do you guys think I will at least run with a CPR piped VIPER??? thanks...

I know i talked to BBY about this same thing before and i beileve he said he did some tuning on his rx against a piped viper! After the clutching he was ahead of the viper!

Your friends F-7 might have been one of the Bad running ones untill the pipes!!
