Rx1 key switch seems dead

Hey guys I know I'm new but i promise that im not a total moron. Posting here because this section gets a bit more traffic than the mountain page it seems. So 2003 RX1 151 I just am wrapping up the rider forward mod outlined in other threads. Moved the Gauge pod to the old steering hole and everything. Tonight i am doing the finishing touches and after turning the key i get Nothing. Oh shucks was my immediate reaction of course. So check all connections. undo the key connection removing the entire key mechanism, and since im on a farm of course i shoved a screwdriver in the socket to hotwire it. It turned over and started. so heres the question Can a Key socket just go out like bang? if so thank God it was at home in the shop, and not out in the trees. Might buy two to have a spare. Back in my skidoo days we also rode with a spare recoil kit so kinda the same idea. Thanks for any help in advance.

haha sorry no pics yet I have a few more things to get done on it. one thing is get a seat as nice as yours but man those things are spendy and i spent all my cash on a holtz skid :S maybe next year
