03 Rx1 loses coolant. Pressure tested. Holds 15lbs. Can't see any external leaks. Oil is clean. Bought sled with bad exchanger. Not sure if it has been overheated. Head gasket? Loses very little running it slow. If you run it hard it loses faster.

Exactly how much is it loosing? Mine likes to run low in the overflow tank. If you fill it above the line, it will puke it out. If it is just a small amount after each ride, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I bump into lots of guys on the trail that claim they have to add coolant and oil after each ride on their RX1's

Usually about 1/2 quart. Always have steam that smells like anti freeze every time I shut it off. I've replaced hoses checked all clamps. Pressure tested.

1/2 a quart is a lot but strange why it holds 15lbs pressure. Did you check your plugs to see if there is any indication of coolant getting in the cylinders? Did you check the small coolant line that goes into the bottom of the far left carb? Did you buy a new heat exchanger or weld the old one?

Plugs look fine. Checked carb lines. Put in used exchanger. Checked every hose. Replaced as many as I can get to. Going to ride it today and see how that works out. All connections to exchanger are dry.

I bought it as is with bad exchanger. So I know nothing about history. Guessing it got hot when exchanger got hole in it. Other than that it runs great.

They will puke out of the overflow a little if you overfill as mentioned above. Also check the coolant tubes between carbs by grabbing them with your fingers and attempt to rotate. They will leak a tiny bit there. If I remember correctly the fix was to split the rack and install an extra o ring. This is probably why you smell antifreeze when you shut it down.Maybe just add some alumaseal (stop leak). That's what I did years ago no problem since.
