Planning to do extended saddlebag trips next season and want to know which saddlebags riders are happy with, Yamaha or otherwise.
Thanks

I purchased the GEARS saddlebags from Parts America and they worked very well and held a lot of stuff. I did have to make minor alterations to how I attached it because it was designed for the RX-1 but it was really easy to do.

Lots of good information already on the site regarding saddlebags or luggage. Try one of these threads.

I have the same ones and they are too small. Good for an overnighter, but not a 3-4 day trip. They are too small. I can barely fit a sandwich in them. :ORCmdkuni said:I own a set of Yamaha's saddlebags. See picture below. They can hold a lot. I put a gallon jug in each side one trip and still had the entire top compartment to use! Great bags!

Weird becasue I fit a gallon jug in each side and had room for probably a third one on top. That is a lot of clothes or whatever else you want to put in there. Maybe our bags are different... beats me..

I have gone as many as 5 nights with these bags. Tennis shoes, pair of jeans 4 or 5 T-shirts-underware-socks, all my toiletries,....I stuff'em good. But my wife saves all the clothing that she would throw away through the year and I toss'em out on my trips. Lighten's the load as you go and less laundry when you get home. Plus I have the nose cone bag, tank bag and a windhield bag.(all Yamaha stuff-excellent Quality) I could go even longer if I wanted to.

the Yamaha hard shelled bags are junk.. mine fell apart the first day ... the exact same thing to my buddies the following... rivets pulled through. This happened on trails in Quebec so that eliminates the rough trail syndrome.. Both sets went back no problem but what good is that when your 800miles from your home not to mention your dealer..to top it all off there over $200.00 here in Ontario.just another Yamaha ^&%(ing ripoff. I have heard about the hard bags having problems but the ones in the picture above are top notch.

The sport combo bags are fine. 7 days and nights in Northern Ontario. I also used the tank bag/map holder for cell phones, radios, batteries, extra gloves, more extra gloves and a satellite phone. The underhood bag for safety equipment, spare wheels, and extra large gauntlets and a spare rear shock. I did have to use a bungee net on top of the sports bags for my tennis shoes. (I have big feet)

I used the Deluxe semi rigid saddlebags on my six day trip in Northern Ontario this past Feb. They were great and I had no problem with them falling apart. They list for 149.95 US. I checked out the sport combo bags first and they look like a large fanny pack and I don't think they would be large enough for a long tour. I think if you had both the combo bag and the semi rigid saddlebags then you would be all set for any kind of trip.

Just came from my dealer's open house and saw the modular Coldwave Saddlebags. Very nice and roomy with easy unhooking from "mount" which stays oon the sled. I have ordered this rig.

I saw the similar COldwave setup. This looks like the only way to go. They have a seat bra to fit a Yamaha then you can snap on the saddle bags or a top bag or both. Custom fit tons of storage for long trips or unsnap a bag or so and use what you need for a day trip.actionjack said:Just came from my dealer's open house and saw the modular Coldwave Saddlebags.
