suspension worked good, stiffer than stock, about a third of the sag, lower ride height, walker evans worked well, no issues. I picked up hygear torsion spring spacers from mr sled( great to deal with by the way) and plan on adding those. Unfortunately that will be next year as my trips are done for this year. Plenty of snow around seney to ride off and on trail for a couple more weeks.( 4ft + off trail) The towns are all cement though. ;)!

walker evans were stiff? i would have never guessed :moon:

my boss wont even use the stock walkers that comes in his race sled cause they are too stiff. we have a running joke at work. when ever the race sleds or ATVs are having shocks done and we need to have them be able to move. we have some 1x2s, that have "walker evans" writen on the side, that are the same lenth as the shocks that we put in their place.
the move about the same. lol

just having ur stock shocks revalved makes a huge differance. my boss did mine and u can actual feel it go from plush to stiff about a 1/3 of the way threw the travel.

i could see where the lower ride hight could be a plus if u werent using all of the travel where u ride and u have sharp corner. it would be alot less tippy. where i ride u need all the travel u can get. so i have to learn to deal with the tippyness or find other ways to get rid of it.
I'm still searching for front shocks maybe I'll just get kyb rebuildables and valve them as per your recommendation.

That's awesome 1x2's ha ha! I know my IQ440 is STIFF. The walkers I put on the phazer were take offs from 08 dragon rmk so they aren't full race valving. They are half an inch shorter than stock phazer shocks, so ride heght is lower. So far so good. Time will tell.

Thanks. My Durablue swaybar is same dia. very flexible and arms are shorter also.So I think you are on right track.I think we need a softer rate swaybar than stock. When I went with 15mm bar which is stiffer than stock it did help at slow speeds like less than 20mph.But anything faster it made no difference since gravity from high CG took over and tipped sled before swaybar could do its job.My theory with lighter swaybar is it will allow front outside to compress before CG takes over and lower the sled front.Lighter springs might do same. Then valving comes into play again.

You guys remember the 02 ArcticCat SnoPro ZR chassis?Remember how Blair Morgan ran that sled for 2 years after F Chassis was released?Well that sled had a ZPS suspension.Basicly there was no preload on shocks.Allowed sled to be low but still have all the travel.Just like a Baja truck. Those sit real low but have over 3ft of travel and ride like a Caddy over huge stuff. That is my goal for Phazer.Low for handling but no travel loss.

My uncle and I got a chance to run our 07 phazers this past weekend in the U.P. My uncles has the hauck git r done kit and freeride track. I had all my schmidt bros products installed, with 96 studs on stock track. All I can say is excellent stuff...worth every penny.

SWAY BAR-- pretty easy install ( approx.1 hour ) Night and day difference in stability and handling compared to stock. Good bye body roll!! Trail handling was phenominal, thing just rails now. Side hilling is much improved very stable doesn't have that really top heavy tippy feel anymore. A must have in my opinion. My uncle is now getting one also.

SINGLE PIPE-- install was again pretty simple, cut off 2 inches of pipe clamp on the single and go. Look and quality are top notch. Sounds killer, no "dull blatty" notes coming from this thing. Crisp, throaty louder than stock sound. Very comparable to the hauck twins on my uncles as far as decibels. NICE!!!!

CLUTCH KIT-- install was reasonably easy. Did it with clutch on sled. Ground out stock weights( rivets) and pound in schmidt bros. Put spring spacer in and all done. Raised my engagement from 3800 to 4200. It changed my shift out from 12400 to 11900. This thing rips, it's got a real sweet spot from 11000 up, just addicting how thick the torque is. Definite improvement over stock.

GYT R DONE VS SCHMIDT BROS.-- We had 57 degree temps on groomed trails and the snow was heavy and shifty. I am 50lbs heavier than my uncle. We both hit 83 mph on the speedo for top end. Not bad considering. From a dead stop my uncle would take me off the line. ( freeride track is awesome) He would hold a sled length all the way. From a rolling start (20 mph) he would get about a half sled from the crack of the throttle, and hold a quarter to half a sled to the end. Traction was a huge issue, as my stock track with studs was no match for the freeride in these conditions. My uncle and I think these kits are very evenly matched performance wise. Price though is a different story. I've got $500 in my pipe, intake kit( same as haucks), and clutch kit, compared to $1200 for the hauck kit. I wish the conditions would have been better for testing, but they sure were great for riding we had a blast!

Schmidtbrosmotorsports.com check out the stuff. Give Chris a call, he has tons of racing experience, awesome to talk to,and has no problem answering questions. Tell him Lee sent ya.(never know what ya might get) :-o
Were you to in the Grand marais/ Seney area?
Yes we were. Stayed at the fox river in seney. Rode all over the seney, grand marais, pine stump area.
I thought so. I was on the one on the srx that asked you about the sway bar for my wifes Phazer MTN. I could kick myself in the arse for not asking you to start your sled up so that I could hear it. :o|

Man I thought about that as you were walking away, but I didn't want to seem like an arrogant ahole "hey want here how bad my sled is?" It was good to meet ya. Great riding huh?

Riding

I am the same way.I was waiting for an offer.LOL Oh well.Yeah,That was some really good riding. Its always nice to be able to ride at that time of year. Tell me more about that sway bar. I checked out the website for them and it has ne VERY interested. Is it worth the price?

IT is worth it to me. The difference in stability both cornering and side hilling is unreal. I know it seems expensive, but handling is the most important thing to me. After talking to chris I had a gut feeling he wasn't yanking my chain on it's performance. It's crazy how much less chassis roll there is with it installed. My uncle is sold on it and is gonna pick one up. One 3 mile stretch of trail and he was hooked.
IT WAS A GREAT RIDE!!! We love spring rides. Funny but we noticed about 80% of the sleds were yamaha's too. If you want more info. pm me. Calling chris will help ya too. Good to meet you on the trail, and be able to talk with you on the site.
USI spx skis with 8 in. shaper bars are an awesome set up vs. stock skis also. ;)!

Is there a functional downside to the sway bar? We've all read or heard the grumbles about the looks and/or cost but what do you lose for what you gain in cornering?

There must be a reason Mountain guys often remove their sway bars completely. :dunno:

Just trying to learn something...

I think Mountain guys remove them so its easier to tip the sled and carve a turn in deep powder.Sno-Cross guys remove them because if you land from a jump on one ski it can force sled down and to other side so quickly that it can throw you right off. Also in a corner with a berm and a hole swaybar forces ski into hole when riding berm. Swaybar also adds rate to your front shocks springs if swaybar is removed front springs will seem softer. In uneven whoops a stiffer swaybar will make sled rock into the holes if front isnt carried.I think this swaybar is actually a lighter rate than stock and thats why it works so well but will have to give guy a call to find out.

I am glad to have found you on the site.I really wanted to know more about that sway bar. You have just sold me on it. Dont really care what it costs as long as it makes the wife more comfortable riding it. She gets pretty nervous in some situations with it and how tippy it is. Snow tech mag had an article about SLP/SLT skis and how well they worked on the Phazer. I ordered a set from a new vendor her on the site. Pretty good deal to. Do you ride U.P. there much?

We only rode that area once this year. We rode mainly below the bridge this year. The UP is awesome but when you can ride the lower with the snow and quality of grooming this year you just got to do it.( might not be good next year) It's called way cheaper too. We love the seney area, as well as big bay, but just couldn't justify passing all the snow on the twisties of the lower.
The sway bar has no limitations that I've found yet. We jumped some small berms and drifts, rode off trail in 4ft of snow, played in some hilly areas, and some bowls.

Thanks for the reply Cannondale, that makes sense. ;)!

CJW, I know what you mean as my wife does NOT care for our FX as it's much more tippy than the GT on the trails.

On the other hand, we were fooling around jumping drifts on the lake and she was having a hard time with the GT so we switched sleds. Besides bottoming the rear, I found the GT wanted to throw me sideways, as described by Cannondale above, when landing off center jumps. The FX just took everything in stride but that GT was a handful.

As soon as we got done fooling around on the lake and hit the smooth trails she gave the FX back and asked me why I didn't just buy a sled that did everything well.

I still don't have the answer to that question... :dunno:

Thanks

Thanks for the input.I will be getting her one for it in the fall. I usually leave the sleds UP there(grand marais) all year unless one of them need maintance. We havent rode in the lower in 4yrs. To many other sleds and the trails dont hold up. I have a buddy that gets up early with me and we go knock out a 150 mile loop in 3 or 4 hours than go back and get the wife and do off trail stuff the rest of the day. I was able to get 2600 miles on that srx this year doin it that way. Not haulin the sleds back and forth is also a bonus. Let me know when you guys go UP there again. I can show you some great off trail stuff. Thanks again

That's great you got a place in grand marais. No doubt keeping the sleds there is a travel bonus. I'll see if we can't look you up next season, a little guided off trail fun sounds good. Thanks.
