Got an SD_12 error code and the machine won't start. After towing it home and warming it up, I looked on the forum and tried the following:
which I found from this other ty4stroke thread after warming the sled up inside and doing steps 1,2, and 3, I found nothing visibly wrong, so i put it back together to test if anything had changed because removing the sensor is a bigger job. It started up again after putting it back together, and the error code was gone. Not sure which one of these solved the problem, but I brought it outside. 2 days later, I went to start it again, and the same error code appeared.
Any ideas? My sled isn't tuned, and no major changes were made before the error appeared. Since the error code went away for a while it leads me to believe that it probably isnt the sensor itself but probably wiring or the ECU. Also, when the error code appears, it shows the RPM being stuck at 5506\8 RPM.
Any help with other things I could check or look into would be really appreciated because my knowledge and experience are limited.

I had the same thing happen on my 2020 winder along with some hand warmer codes, it did restart once and failed to start the next time and it was the crank sensor. Luckily I had 2 days of warranty left and the dealer changed out the stator and it's done a 1,000 kms since then. Supposedly you can change out just the crank sensor by soldering in a new one if available to you instead of replacing the complete stator.

Do you know why the stator would fix the problem? If the battery is fully charged shouldn't the fact that the stator could be broken not effect the status of the sensor if the sled isn't started up yet?I had the same thing happen on my 2020 winder along with some hand warmer codes, it did restart once and failed to start the next time and it was the crank sensor. I'm not sure exactly what happened to my code the first time but maybe just being inside and warming up plus with disconnecting everything to take measurements the crank sensor had some life in it until it fails completely. When my machine did restart and I went for a ride but once I shut it off that was it, code came bad and never restarted.
The dealer had me buy a brand new battery at first but that didn't solve the issue so they proceeded with a warranty claim which took Yamaha around a week to decide to proceed with the repairs. They did have me pay the crank case cover gasket and oil for some reason. Dealer was paid 6 hrs labor and parts and the mechanic bragged that it only took him 2.5 hrs for the job. This does seem to be somewhat of a common problem on the winders. Good luck and keep us posted.

Usually warranty hours don't give enough time.
