Hey, so i took apart my chaincase on my Nytro the other day to check the bearings, and i found that most of them were NOT sealed on either side... Now since the forum was down last night i did some reading on other pages and i found lots of people asking the same thing, even Ski-Doo guys were saying they had bearings that were open.
Now my question is, the only one that was sealed was the lower shaft bearing inside the chaincase? - this makes sense as it keeps the shavings and garbage in floating in the oil pool out of the bearing but allows enough oil to weep through to keep the bearing lubed, however the other side of that bearing is open to the outside of the chaincase. Granted there is the rubber seals that the shafts slide through. I took everything apart for a track change and jackshaft bearing change which ive done, but now im going to put it back together i want to make sure if i need anything ill just do it now.
i added some pictures, you can see the one bearing with the seal on the oil side, the rest of the bearings i just cleaned and repacked with some viperlube, im just worried that without the bearingseals its just gonna throw that grease right out of the bearing?
or if you guys can tell me its no problem to leave those open and i just have to open it every season to repack with grease then i will definitely do that
