finally got new to me 2014 viper xtx out for a long ride. 15 miles into it, I realized this thing must be ingesting snow somewhere and steams like an old locomotive. At the first stop I was completely white in frost, while everyone else was not. We were booking it across a well snow covered lake. Are there key areas I should seal up on this thing?
A Frogskin over entire radiator would be best. Over the top of the Plastic fins so snow doesnt melt. The grill in there is useless except for Ice and rock chunks. Twice now my stock grille has completely froze over making radiator and fan useless. Something like this 1100 Turbo one MtCooler added except for Yamaha. It wont fit our Vipers just 7000.finally got new to me 2014 viper xtx out for a long ride. 15 miles into it, I realized this thing must be ingesting snow somewhere and steams like an old locomotive. my xtx will steam bad in deep snow . I have sealed up all holes in the belly pan with silicone and sealed above A arms where hood has gaps and no difference.
i think it has to do with the hole cut in the top of the tunnel for the header pipe because i can make mine steam by quickly spinning the track from a stop and the sled not moving. I would like to make a tunnel deflector or sheet metal the hole over but am not sure about heat build up under front of gas tank.
Questions:
Why is the hole in the front of the tunnel ?
to cool the exhaust?
if so is it the air moved by the track that cools or does it rely on snow( no snow on icy trails some times)?
is it needed can it be covered or deflected allowing air to still flow ?
or did the engineers run out of room and have to cut the tunnel?
Hope others will chime in here. i would like to here some opinions on this.

I have Straightline Header and sealed the hole. No issues and much cleaner engine but I took preventative heat measures. Ceramic coated header,More heat shielding on tank and vented the Batwings and aluminum heat shield. No issues in 3 seasons. Your call and dont want to hear it if sled catches on fire. Most all steam is from Radiator. The water on tunnel is from the hole.my xtx will steam bad in deep snow . Got sleds out of trailer and pulled panels off. Have a huge chunk of ice under the muffler and oil reservoir. Wonder if I'm getting snow through the exhaust outlet hole. Seems to be a 3/8" gap around the pipe.
Could be. They make a shield for exhaust from cat you could rivet on or just get a factory skid plate its built in.Got sleds out of trailer and pulled panels off. Here is my tunnel closure

Here is the exhaust shield. It also keeps the snow from choking off your exhaust and killing the engine.

cannondale thanks for your insight.
louvered aluminum plate on the tunnel is what i was thinking .
snow was not coming in vents on top of the hood to get in rad . will enough snow come through stock mesh below bumper cause steaming?
