(Season 2008-09) TY Mileage – Yellowknife

Guys, i'll answer all your questions soon, but I wanted to update you...

The Phazer left me stranded tonight at approximately 10:30pm, roughly 35 km's from town.

I had to walk about 10 km's to the nearest ice road and I had someone come get me with their truck after I called them on my Sat Phone. 3 hours later the ordeal is over.

The Phazer is still in the bush, spending the night by itself as punishment for screwing me over yet again!

Unfortunately I didn't have my video camera on me, but I will for the rescue mission in 8 hours, and will update accordingly. It appears to be an electrical issue that will not allow the sled to start or run. Stay tuned.

Damm man, that sucks! Hope it is something simple like a pinched wire harness when they put the new motor in.
How was the weather for the walk out??? Wasnt -40 again was it?
After following all your post last year and this I keep asking for a posting up to Yellowknife. Have a couple guys up there now that I used to work with here in Cold Lake. I thought we did harsh winter survial camps for training!!! But you do it just to go and be outdoors.

that sucks.

btw you where mentions in the sled talk blog. he was talking about cold weather and said it was only t-shirt weather for you guys.

Yeah, it is pretty warm up here in Inuvik. All weekend has been plus 5 and zero so some gasoline was burnt and a few videos were made !!

what kind of oil you using in your PowerWagon?

you may have to install an element in the oil pan to work with your block heater, maybe just need 20 minutes of it running to get the oil hot & flowing faster.

I did not like the sound your truck made last sunday when it was only -27 after 4 days of -40, it sounded like a diesel, and you said you had the generator running for the block heater then?

The Power Wagon had mineral oil in it. Brutal I know. I'm on one of those maintenance plans that covers things like oil changes. It will be going in for full synthetic in a week. sigh...

hahaha that was awesome.

An update on my generator cause I think I forgot to report the issue, One of the rocker arms popped off the pushrod on the intake valve. It was probably frozen in place when I tried to start it. It is fixed and has ran great for 2 weekends now.

Sleding Weekend Number Twelve!

I can’t believe that 12 weeks of riding has gone by. In 12 weeks I have lost a combined 61 days of riding between my two sleds being in for repair; That’s 2 out of 3 months so far.

16 days Nytro down and counting
45 days Phazer down and counting

Luckily, both sleds have only been down at the exact same time for 5 days (and counting) so I’ve only lost 5 real days of riding so far, and I’m heading to British Columbia Saturday which will allow a week for some much needed repairs to get done – at this point, I’m unsure how many miles I’ve put on…

To think that we are almost half way through winter here makes me wonder where it all went, then I look back and see 4 hours of video’s posted and I quickly remember.

Friday morning, Greg and I went to rescue the Phazer from its overnight grave. See video.

The status on the Phazer is that a grounding block that several ground wires go into has melted, resulting in all sorts of electronic failures to occur. Parts are on order, however I have not found out what exactly caused the melting to occur. They were still working on that as of Monday. We don’t want to just install the new parts to have those melt as well.

The rescue went well, but that left me without a sled for the weekend for the first time this year. It also left me with a lot of time on my hands at the wall tent.

Here we are ready to depart at the truck…oh yes, I found a way out to the tent…

We were able to do some fishing, and build a polar tub to enjoy the warm weather, see video…

….we built a hockey rink, see video….

and I got to test out the helmet camera. For correction, the video says the helmet camera shoots 16x9. I was wrong. My testing was minimal, so I don’t have any kind of review for it yet.

The weather was amazing, we had near freezing temperatures instead of –40. It felt like spring time and we certainly enjoyed as much of it as we could. So did the rest of the town, as we had roughly 18 visitors at the tent throughout the weekend!

I took a ride in the snow coach for a real world test lol, you gotta see the video…

At one point we had 6 adults and 4 kids inside the tent. I have no idea how we all fit.

Greg’s bearcat entered a new saga on the weekend as well, see video…

If we didn’t have problems, we’d probably be bored so I’m glad things always go wrong.

And a couple young hockey stars were born…

Unfortunately, this is the last mileage log entry for about 2 weeks but for good reason. On Saturday a few of us are heading to Revelstoke for a week of riding where I’ll be rolling on every moment riding a 2009 Summit. I will catch via helmet camera and video camera every second I can. When I’m back home I’ll work on the video’s.

Enjoy this week’s video’s:

Be carefull down in Revy. Lots of avalanches this year and alot more to come with the way the snow and weather as been. Many hills you would not even think about are sliding!!
Stick to the trees and playing in the bowls.
