Seasons first start

Ok sorry if this is a dumb question but does anyone have a way to start these 4 strokes for the first time of the season other than standing there turning the key until the battery dies? I tried starting fluid and that gets it to "stumble" but as soon as the starting fluid burns off I am back to just cranking the key. Any help would be appreciated.
