Has anyone had there broken seat heater replaced under warranty on a Yamaha ?
Apparently there may be a difference between the Cat warranty and Yamaha in this regard.

Yep I have the 5 year warranty and it did not cost me a penny.
Do a search and you shall find a ton of info concerning, especially if your not warrantied and want to tackle it yourself.

Mine is being replaced as we speak under warranty. I missed it when I was in Canada a few weeks ago!

Very easy to fix, usually wire coming thru seat flexing at a little chip. Re connect, They want crazy money for a new one, especially with no warranty.

Yes, allot of times they can be fixed (depends how close to chip the wire broke). However, if nothing is done to correct the design problem, it will happen again. So getting a new one installed is nice but it too will stop working at some point due to same problem - broken wire.
This problem is just like getting your track shaft replaced due to spinning in bearing, and not changing anything to correct the problem. It will happen again and again. Go to link and start reading at post #25.

The heated seat isnt working on my dads Viper. I'm going to have a look at it Sunday. Do you have to remove the seat cover to get at the area where the chip is?Very easy to fix, usually wire coming thru seat flexing at a little chip. No. Seat heaters not covered. Guess why? They fail allot and Yamaha/Cat doesn't want to have to pay for them. Bad design and repeated failures.Here is a copy of the YES warranty that says it doesn't cover the seat heater .

My heater was not repaired under warranty. They would not upgrade my roll over valve.

Below is according to Cat service manual. Should be same as Yamaha.
"Seat heater elements cannot be tested."
To do a resistance test:
1. Disconnect the main harness/element connector.
2. Connect one ohmmeter lead to the red/black main harness wire; then connect the other ohmmeter lead to the green/red main harness wire. The meter must read the following, plus or minus 5%:
Lo = 4.32k ohms
Hi = 3.75k ohms
Note: If resistance is not within specification, troubleshoot the switch connector located under the steering support plastic panel. If the switch connector tests good, replace the switch.
To test voltage:
1. Disconnect the main harness/element connector.
Note: For this procedure, test the main harness side of the connector, NOT the element side of the connector.
2. Connect one ohmmeter lead to the red/black main harness wire; then connect the other meter lead to the black main harness wire.
3. Start the engine. The meter must read 12-15 volts.
Note: If this voltage test does not read within specification, troubleshoot the main harness, F-2 fuse, K-2 relay, or the F-7 main fuse.
