a belt in on my 2004 shorty went fir a sh*% at 350KM. Put the new belt on and noticed it sat down in the sheave 1/4 inch. We pulled the secondary off tonight, and took the stock black spring which was in the hole numbered 3 and moved it to the hole numbered 6. It seems to have a lot more bottom end but it made no difference on the position of the belt in the secondary. The machine tops out at 10,000rpm. Is that normal or should I get this thing in for service.Thanks.

It almost sounds like you are missing the shims on the adjusting bolts. Or there could be something broken. You've really got to fix that, the belt should ride 1.5 mm ABOVE the secondary. With it starting off that low, you should be experiencing harsh engagement.

It is very harsh when engaging. It acts as though the machine does not want to move till about 4500rpm. It is going to the dealer today. The noise from the primary clutch is annoying when idling. I am also getting black belt marks on my belt cover and some squeeling at idle.

I recently had the same problem on my 03 shorty...belt sat a least a 1/4 of an inch below the top of the sheeve...we thought it was the bushing..replaced it under warrenty...no good,..replaced the sheeve...no good..ended up machining the secondary face, approx...061 inchs, allong with the split washer and finally got the belt to be flush with the top chamfer edge. Pulls really hard all the way to 10,400 rpm and stays at 10,200 rpm!
