Setting the skid back

LB, I haven't done this, but you had mentioned at one point a while back, that doing the set back thing adds a ton of weight onto the skis - which might make the sled handle like a tank under some conditions. That made a lot of sense to me. Change your mind, or forgot to mention?

ahicks, I did the setback with my ExpertX and have no discernible increase in ski pressure. I think with proper limiter length and spring preload, it could be minimized regardless of the suspension used, Just my opinion on that, no experience with any other suspension.

The exact mounting position is to move everything exactly 4" back from their current positions, parallel with the top of the tunnel.

I thought I read one of your posts that advise against this...it may jam the suspension due to the geometry being thrown off. I know you were talking about a 121" and said that the Attack skid would not have the same problem but unfortunately I am not smart enough to follow the rational :o| .

I installed my zx2 as a 121" to get the rest of the wear out of the stock track. I had bought the 136" extension kit and had always planned to stretch it. Now I'm wishing I could stretch to 144" with tipped up rails. But perhaps setting the 136" back 4" to accomodate a 144" track is more practicle? I'm gussing it will make the sled steer heavier (not good) than using tipped up rails and put more weight on the skis but it will climb up onto the snow faster. I'd love to figure out a way to tip up the extension and go 151" long but it sounds like expensive R&D. Sounds like my pilot skis will need to go be replaced too.

The ZX2 is compatiable with a set back I got that from Dennis Bolvin himself, you would just adjust it so it ha more transfer and your current skis will be fine. There is unproven marginal gains with a tip up rail vs a straight rail, the only that is proven is it seems to make a lot of sense and its easy to market. A tip up would be nice but I dont think you will see any benefit to it, there is only an additional 4" on the ground back there and with a 121" when I'm pulling the skis there is more track then that NOT on the ground.

I say set back the 126 ZX2 to a 144 and then you have the best of everything, low approach angle, and using the parts you have. I'm sure the Zx2 can be adjusted for more transfer unless you have it on max right now and its not enough, I have mine on 1/4 I think as the 2/4 setting would pop the skis too much coming out of a corner. So if I were to do it I think a 2/4 setting would overcome the set back and it ride very similiar.

Good luck post the results of what you do!

This is my plan for the Attak once the boost goes on. Already looked at everything and I`ll be moving all my bolt holes back 4" and down 3/8". 8T avids and the drop should let me switch between studded trail and a 1.75" powder track for poleline days and keep the tunnel protectors in.

Thanks for the links..APEX 06 ;)! ..this is soooo much cheaper than the way I was going to go.my wife will be happy :-o .for awhile...lol...now theres more money for my sled..lol...thanks. ;)!
