Just picked up an 05 RX1 Mountain and am looking for some tips on setting up the rear suspension. If there is an existing thread, please link me, i've tried searching. I'm new to sleds and know basically nothing, so the more pictures the better!

05 skids are different. they are the newer style with no transfer rods.
What kind of riding? how much weight?
I'm 240lbs and can give you my setup but will have to go look under sled to see what I'm settings are at.

My experience has been slow and a little frustrating on this subject. Not a lot of help for the mountain suspension. I have had very little luck finding upgrade parts. The oem shocks did not last 500 miles before they were completely blown out. I'm not a hard rider, they're just junk. Slightly embarassing defending Yamaha product quality to your friends when your rear bumper is dragging the ground with only 500 miles on it. After much searching, I found the HPG shocks on '08+ Venture GT, or '09-10 apex mtx will bolt right in with little trouble. So I found a set of them on the internet. They fixed a lot of my problems, but they were slightly harsh. I found that Yamaha does a very basic single rate valving on the shocks. The bonus is, these are rebuildable, and there are people who can do this for you. (Carver or Pioneer). I also found improved steering with a kit from Bergstrom skegs. He has a handling kit for the skis that works pretty good. Without changing out the whole suspension, I think these are about your best solutions. I was not very happy with the ride until I fixed revalved ALL the shocks with a progressive multirate setup. This allows a plush ride for small bumps, but firms up the harder you hit. Basic Yamaha shocks over a couple years old are not good in this area.
Good luck with your setup.
